Keyless entry

I have a 2001 Supercrew. How do you program an additional keyless entry remote? Also, I have only one key that is programmed. I have a second key that is cut but not programmed. I understand that in order to program a key in the 2001 models, you need two keys that are already programmed. Does anyone know a way around this? I went to ford and they wanted $89. One last question. Does anyone know how to reset the entry code under the handle without knowing the combo? Thanks for your responses anything will help.

Look in your Owner’s Guide; it explains how to program a remote. You will need two working keys though. You’re going to have to go to a dealership and get a second key since you don’t have one.

The dealership has a reader they can use to determine the factory keypad combination. You will need this in order to program a personal entry code.

Looks like a trip to the dealership!

I've got the same problem. I signed up in hopes someone would know of a way to get around having to take it to the dealer to get a second key programed. Why did Ford make that change, from what I understand models before "99" all you need it one key to program spares. To me it seems like a way to generate a little more money.

You should be able to look on the module under the dash on the driver's side for the original factory code. The Owner's Manual has the procedure for adding or changing an existing code, but the factory one is permanent.

Having to use 2 keys to program another spare does make it more difficult for a less-than-honest person to create their own "spare" key to your truck, for their own later use...
