What is a good strobe light system?

I have considered installing a strobe light system to use when I park my vehicle along country roads while doing my storm spotting. I want to be seen by others at night or in heavy rain.

Can anyone recommend a good do-it-yourself kit? I have an F150 XLT extended cab 4x4 with the fog lamps.

Do I have to modify existing lamp housings or get new ones or put a different type of bulb in? Where's a good information source (besides here)? I don't want other lights mounted on the truck that are visible when not used, such as the roof-mounted strobes.

Thanks,

Roger

Most of the "hideaway" systems I've seen add a bulb to your existing light housings and then run wiring back to a strobe head / control unit. Adding these bulbs ends up putting a decent sized hole in your light housings. Installed correctly, they work pretty well though.

A company in my neck of the woods that makes everything you need is Star Warning Systems. I run their stuff on my roof and on all of the plow trucks I work on and have had very good luck with them. They have an interesting new LED product that fits inside your vehicle at the top of your windshshield (or back window) called "The Shadow" that's pretty wild and might work for you too. You can reach them at (585) 226-9500.
