Trailer lights
I bought a used 2000, It has the towing package. I have never attempted to tow anything until this week and when I plug in the trailer lights they do not work. The lights on the truck work fine. i have checked all the fuses and they seem to be fine. I have in my glove box two relays and a wire harness, I never knew what these were for and am assuming form some of the other posts that they may be the reason I can not get lights??? Anyone know why if the truck included a tow package it would not be ready to tow out of the showroom? What are some other issue I should be paying attention to? I am sure you will need more information to help me but I am not sure what.

The first thing you need to do is eliminate variables. Variable number one - is it the truck or the trailer? A simple test light will tell you if you have power coming out of the truck side connection. If you don't, the next variable I'd check is the trailer connection fuses. In your Owner's Manual, you'll find their exact location - under the hood. I'd be willing to bet you need to go no further. If you do, just post back - but I'd recommend either the Electrical or Towing & Hauling forums.

There are special fuses in the engine compartment fuse box just for the trailer adapter plug.
One for each of the stop/turn lamps and another for the running and backup lights.
Hope those are the ones you actually checked.

if your trailer has a 6 or 7 way plug,you're gonna have to get a brake box(brake controller) to pull the trailer.and you might be using the wrong adapter plug.my 6 way adapter didn't work with my trailer cause some of the wiring was different on the adapter.and i had one fuse that kept blowin cause i didn't have the right adapter and a brake box.
