Dome light

Hi Everyone

Just recently bought a Ford F150 supercab year model 2000. Trying to fix some things I'm finding that does not work. I've searched this site and found many of fixes the dome light that does not shut off on it's on with can of WD-40. That's amazing.

My problem is the opposite. Dome light don't come on. When I open the driver side door the light comes on and goes out when I close the door like it should. When the passenger side door is open only the dome light does not come on.

I'd like for the dome light to come on and go out when the door is opened to get in the truck like the driver side door does.

Can anyone help me point me in right direction in where to look to solve this little matter.

My cigar lighter thing didn't work either. I replaced the fuse to fix this little matter.

Dome light works from panel too. I can switch it on and off from panel and the map lights work as well. The dome light does not light up when the passenger side door is open and that's what I would like to get it to do is light up when passenger door is opened. Just so you can see at night time for getting in truck and out.

Just found this site last night. Was searching internet for answer to problem and found this site. Here I am a member now. Looks like a good find too.

Thanks for any responses.

My first post hope it works

Have you reiwd WD40 on the passenger side? If that doesn't work you will have to pull the door panel offto test and or remove the switch.

I tried the wd40 trick out today on the passenger side door. No luck. Tomorrow in the morning I will check it out and see if maybe after it has soaked a bit with wd40 it will work. I didn't really know where to spray the wd40 just inserted the red straw where the latch is at and squirted some around the assembly inside best I could. All the reading I been doing here on this site doesn't really tell you exactly where to squirt the wd40 just say use wd40 on latch assembly. I guess I got the wd40 in the area it needed to be.

Is the door panel hard to remove. If I remove the door panel will I be able to see this switch. I assume you mean test it by making sure the switch is moving in and out.

Thanks for the reply. I been thinking maybe there's a bad fuse or relay or something. If it was the fuse then the driver side door wouldn't work either.

The driver side door does work it's just the passenger side door when opened that none of the lights come on.

These door switches complete a ground signal to the GEM which then turns on the lights. There are two circuits, left and right going to the GEM but the GEM uses only one output to the lights.

There are 2 wires going to the switch. The black one is the ground. Un plug the connector and short their treminals, that should turn on the dome light. Make sure the terminals are clean. If shorting turns on the light then the switch is broken or the terminals were dirty If it doesn't turn on check the black wire for continuity to ground. If that checks out check the other wire for voltage. If there is no voltage then there is a break in the wire between the GEM and the connector.

Thanks for the post. I had not thought of that. Your right that could be the case.

This weekend coming. I will be pulling the door panel off this weekend if everything goes alright on Friday. Friday I am getting 4 new tires put on.

Thanks for informing me about the wires and how to check switch. I'm hoping I get to check it out this weekend.

When I get door panel off and checked things out more, I'll post back what I find out.
