Putting foil around the thermistor....I think this will work.....for a while. If you notice a bunch of black stuff inside that's the dust from the wear on the carbon shoes. They will wear down to nothing eventually so you might extend the life a bit but may be back in there a few months later.

my solution..

I just dont like messing with those door parts so what I did was I took the truck into the body shop that rebuilt my Mustang. Those guys do that kind of crap all the time its not nessesary to go to the dealer if you dont want to fix it yourself. They installed a new actuator in my passenger door and charged me $80 for eerything. of course I've spent over 10 grand there so they might have give me a bit of a deal but I dont think it would have been that much more at any body shop.

Excellent work on the inter-working of the door lock system,

I'm inquisitive on how can you get the doors to lock and unlock with a aftermarket alarm keyfob.

I presume I would be able to apply a +positive trigger to either side of the 3 pair relay system you spoke about to make the doors unlock. do you think it will work?

Thanks for your help...

Replaced Door Lock Acutators

Replaced my door lock actuators this afternoon sing Rodger D's instructions. Cut my arm twice and cursed up a storm. Without his instruction I would have given up. Saved $160. Thanks Roger D. JLM

On DEI alarms you could use the 451M door lock relay to tie in the doorlocks to the alarm.
You tap the + & - wires from the actuators and tie them into the lock unlock wires, your green and blue (I forget the polarity). Just make sure to ground the white and the brown wire and feed the purple 12v constant

Now the key fob doesn't unlock the doors. Once inside, the driver's door lock switch doesn't work. The passenger side switch will lock both doors but won't unlock either.

When I shift into gear and let off the brake, the doors autolock.

When I activate the alarm, both doors lock. Again, when I disarm the alarm, neither door unlocks and the switches inside won't unlock the doors either.

Sounds to me something is shorted but I have no idea where to start looking.

Any ideas? RKE module on the alarm? The alarm seems to function properly otherwise.
Did you ever get this fixed? but it sounds like bad relays, I'd tap into the doorlock motor wires and use the alarm FOB to unlock the doors for a quick fix. it's called a "5 wire" you could have a local shop do it for you but might as well go to the dealer i guess.

4 years later...

Here we are 4 years after you posted these instructions, and they're still helping people. Thank you!!!

My 2000 F150 lariat extended cab, the passenger side lock got weak at about 88000 miles, then the driver side at 90000. 3 months later I cant stand using the key anymore, so I searched here ... and found this post.

Ordering new actuators, replacing them as soon as they get here.

Ok so mine is a 97 and I had to drill the rivet out as well and it's the drivers side that is giving me trouble. It seems to work just fine but it makes a horrible noise when I lock them, no noise when unlocking for some reason...I'm not exactly sure where to drill on my actuator though but I think I'm just going to pry it open. anyone have pics of this process still?

Thanks

This thread is still getting useage. 2003 F150 extended cap. Both acuators are foobar, thanks to some genius spraying WD40 into the latches... I could probably clean them but replacements should get me another 70,000 miles.
Thanks to everyone posting to this thread!
