Heater/AC trouble
Anybody out there with any answers? My 1997 F-150's heat and ac are not working right, all it does is blow cold air all the time except when i have the **** turned to panel. I did notice that when i turn the selector **** that my ac is kicking on no matter where i have it set even on defrost, except for when it is on panel, then it just blows luke warm air. I am also not able to adjust the heat. any suggestions are greatly appreciated
Could be the dreaded blend door problem or the rheostat for your temperature control. If it's the rheostat, they're about 12.00 at the dealer and takes about 30 minutes to replace. If it's the blend door that isnt working, it could be the diaphram that actuates it or the door. Remove the black cover that is between the tranny hump and the dash assy. You sould be able to see a diaphram for the blend door. With the truck running, move the control kknobs and see if the diaphram actuates the door. If the diaphram works, and the door doesn't move the door attach point may be broke.
Here's a possible cause for a hot/cold control problem that I just found on my 99 F150. Sometimes I had all the cold, and sometimes all the hot I wanted, but very erratic. Finally figured it had to be the rheostat in the dash, partially 'cause it didn't feel right when turning it. Popped open the dash and found that the hot/cold control **** was split! More often that not, the **** spun on the shaft without actually turning the shaft. The shaft is plastic, so it too was getting rounded off. I wrapped a small wire around the **** to close it up, until I can get a new ****. I hope the shaft hangs in there. So, before you go tearing into it, slide the hot/cold **** off for a quick look.
I think I'm having the same problem. Cold/luke warm air blows no matter what position I have the controls set to, Panel, floor or any combination...in fact the only way I can get even warm air is to turn all the way to Max A/C........
Was hoping you had found a solution to this problem you could share....
