Question Power window down only, help!

I have a 2000 F-150 super cab with passenger window that will only go down via either button(drivers or passenger side). I get no movement when I press up on either button. To get the window up I unpluged the motor, reversed the wires with jumpers and pressed down on the button. Window went right up so I know it's not the moror. I'm looking for help on where to look next for the problem. Thanks. Larry

Motor OK, did you verify switch is ok? Use jumper on switch, if motor works that should mean bad switch. If motor dosent work, then perhaps a bad wiring connect? JMO!

Good luck on fix.....OT

If the motor runs in one direction it can't be a wiring concern, motor only has 2 wires 1 hot 1 ground.Passenger side switch grounds through drivers side switch. With drivers switch pushed to up position check with an ohm meter between terminals that go to wires tan/lightblue and black Do this with switch disconnected.Open circuit =bad switch. You could also install jumper between tan/lightblue & black and then try passenger side switch,if window works its bad drivers side switch. Do this with drivers switch disconnected also.

Umm... How can the motor's two wires be positive and negative and have a window that moves in two directions?

Maybe the motor is grounded through the body and the wires from the switches are both positive and would tell the motor which way to go depending upon which one is pressed...

Fireman467, the 2 wires are positive and negative. On a DC operated motor, you can reverse the direction by reversing polarity.

The door doesn't have a secure ground to operate the motor.

Hello,

I had a similar problem in that the driver's side switch for the passenger window would bring it down but not up but the passenger side switch would work either way. Figured I'd look inside the suspected switch. Found that there's a little nub of plastic at the end of the plastic rocker that activates the copper contact. The nub was either worn off or broke off. I considered putting a real small pin in it's place but elected to just bend the copper contact a bit closer to the nub end. It's been working fine so far. I find that the switches on this truck can be refurbed easily if they're not fried. Most of them are made such that you can unsnap them and reassemble fine.
