Key won't turn, help

Pretty new to the site, but I just encountered a weird problem tonight. My key will not turn in the ignition, it just remains locked. I went home and grabbed my spare thinking that maybe the chip inside went out and returned and nothing. Made sure it was in park, adjusted the tilt while feathering the key - Nothing. Disconnected the battery for a couple minutes. Both keys will not engage at all. Any ideas? I got the truck lifted a week a half ago, but no problems. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Dan

I had a similar problem a year ago. I put the key in the ignition but I could not turn it. It seemed it was stuck. When I force the key sometimes I succeeded to run the engine. The solution for my problem was very simple. The black plastic cover on the key head was contacting the handle on switch. This was preventing the key from engaging. What I did was to shave and remove most of the black cover. So I had a pure metal key. It engages smoothly ever since and no problems so far. It seems silly but you might want to try it before spending money to fix it. Let me know if you find out what the problem is.

This maybe too basic, so forgive me if you already tried it.
It there pressure on the steering wheel in the lock position ?
Every so often I will have my wheels turned just right, and it is altually putting pressure on teh steering wheel lock, and the key won't release it.
All I do is turn the wheel in the direction away from the lock, and the key will release.
When the wheel is locked, it turns a little bit left and right, and if the wheel has pressure against the lock in the left direction, pull it to the right a bit, and turn the key, and the ley turns no problem then.

Again, sorry if this is too basic, but reading the post, I am taking the key won't turn to be it is not overcoming the steering wheel local, to move to the on position. Maybe I read the post wrong ??

Good luck, and let us know what happens

hey guys,
thanks for the replies...everything turned out fine...it was too basic, the wheel was locked tight, and I mean tight. I tried putting force and turning the key prior and nothing happened. But this time, I turned in the direction of the lock and applied some "real force" and presto - key turned and the truck came to life.

thanks
