Lighting options???
Lighting options???
Hey,
I've got a curiousity question for somebody. I had a '97 F150 Lariat SuperCab that I bought new in '96. It did not come with the remote door opener, but had all the regular Lariat options otherwise. Even if I didn't actually open the door, the interior lights would come on if I just pulled up on the door handle (either side, I think). Not a really critical issue, but it was handy to see if you'd forgotten something inside after getting out and the door was already locked. Well, I sold that truck and got a '98 F150 Lariat SuperCab, which is almost a dead ringer for the '97 except that the '97 was an automatic and the '98 is a stick. The '98 doesn't have the remote either. It will not turn the interior lights on when the door handle is lifted. Were there different lighting options and I just ended up with two different examples, or should they all light up when the handle is lifted but I've got a blown fuse or something on the '98? If I do, then a lot of other new and used F150's also have a blown fuse, 'cause I'd visit the lots at night and try a bunch of them out and only a few turned the interior lights on. If somebody knows how to make my '98 work like this, please let me know. Hope I'm not the only one who's ever seen this! Thanks for the advice. Eric

Well I have 99 Scab Lariat and if I lift the door handle when locked, nothing happens. However, if I hit the unlock on the keyfob then the interior light comes on. It is possible that your truck is equiped with keyless entry but you just don't have the keyfob. You can get a new keyfob off ebay for cheap and reprograming is very simple. You can do search on here for that. It would seem odd to me if a F150 lariat didn't come with keyless entry but I've seen stranger things in my days.
rjkjoe,
Thanks for the reply. I don't think that keyless entry came as standard equipment on Lariats until '99. My '98 doesn't have the little blinking red 'Alarm' light in the dash, so I don't think it has the feature at all. I actually owned another '97 for a short period of time and it did have the keyless entry option with the flashing red dash light. My '98 is actually pretty stripped as Lariats go; I've even got the 5-speed 4.6, which they dropped after '98 also in the Lariats. I don't have a sliding rear window or CD changer. I've pretty much just got the basics that Lariats came with. I've put captain's chairs out of a '99 Lariat in it, so it looks a little classier. Anyway, thanks again for the help. I just always thought it was cool to be able to turn the interior lights on when the door handle was lifted. Catch you later!
