Question on PATS and remote starter.

I am looking at getting a remote starter for my 2000 F-150. I know I need the module because of the PATS system. Does the module bypass the originall PATS all the time, or just during the remote start? Also is there anywhere else besides the dealer to get unprogrammed keys?
Thanks,
Craig

Only at startup. Of course, if you use a PATS bypass module that has a precut and pre-programmed key inside, you are looking at a security risk.

You can buy blank PATS keys from vendors on eBay for under $20 each.

We used these modules in my truck and 2 of my buddies. It doesnt use a key in any way but a little chip that is programmed like a key. It keeps the PATS intact in all other aspects except during the remote start pulse.

I bought mine and my buddies off Ebay for 10.00 each with shipping...

Of course I`m sure there is someone out there in the midst of professional thieves that know how to use this to their advantage anyways but the simple low life amateur thief will be slowed down. This is where the backup battery pack for the Alarm part of the system helps out...

ckoerner ,

I've used this one on my truck and three other Fords that I installed remote starts on.

What I did was programmed the key and then cut off the keyed part and only installed the back end of the key in the unit. I bought my spare key at Ace Hardware for $19.99 and programmed it myself. As long as you have 2 programmed keys you can program another yourself.

If you haven't purchased a remote start unit yet, i suggest you look at this one, I have installed at least a dozen of these with zero issues.

I don't work for these guys or have anything to do with them, i just like quality products and good service.....good luck with your install
