High beams and headlights

I have a very strange problem on my 1997 F150 4x4 reg cab. I was driving home and I tried to use my high beams but they wouldn't come on so I tried my fog lights and they wouldn't come on either. So I stopped at a gas station and check my headlights and the daytime running lights were on but there was no difference between the headlights with them turned on or off..(if that makes sense).

So I have been driving at night on the daytime running lights with no high beams or fog lights.

I am thinking its a faulty highbeam switch in the steering column because if I push the selector back and forth really fast sometimes the headlights and fogs come on but if I turn them off they won't come on again...

Any other ideas? I really don't want to pull the steering column apart...

Have you checked all the fuses? I am e-mailing you 2 bitmap files. One with the test procedure for the Multifunction switch and one with a connector pin out diagram.

Regards
