Help - Fog Light Upgrade ?'s

I have a question regarding what seemed to be a simple upgrade. I drive a 1998 Expedition.

I read on here that one could upgrade the fog lights in our trucks by upgrading to the 9005ST headlight from SilverStar.

I also read that some have to clip a flange on the bulb some times in order for it to fit. I had to clip mine - however, the inside of the connector also needed to be shaved down a bit in order for it to fit and word.

Testing shows that all is well, but I'm now concerned that not only did I spend $45 on bulbs, but that I got the wrong ones and could fry my wiring.

Is this right for a 1998 year vehicle??

This is the first time I've ever heard of someone having to file down the connector. What part of the connector are you referring to? How much was filed?

Dumb question here but, are you positive that you got 9005s?

I, too, had to snip a flange but, this is the first time I've ever heard of this issue.

I have no reason to believe that you're going to zap your wiring though...

I will try to get a pic on here, but I am very confident that I got the 9005ST bulb.

Basically - right in b/w the actual contacts there was a piece of plastic that prevented the bulb from sliding on. I simply used the dremel and shaved it off and the bulb was able to slide on with minimal impact, but I thought it weird that I search and found many results with nobody having to do this.

I'll get the pic and show you what I mean. They work just fine though.

I've got to agree with RockPick here. I don't think you've got the right bulbs. I just swapped both my headlights and fog lights over to Silverstars last weekend and other than clipping the one ear on the 9005 fog light bulbs, everything just swapped right in.

As far as frying a harness goes, I wouldn't worry. You need much higher wattage bulbs to draw enough amps to fry your stock harness.

I installed the 9005's in place of factory fogs, I don't see them doing anything/making any difference. Don't bother.

Yeah - To be honest... I'm just too lazy to go check it out and take pics. Everything appears to be working just fine.

Truth be told I just got these to upgrade the look from the front. The HID's over-power anything I could have down there.
