P-brake light not coming on
P-brake light not coming on
Ok, another little problem, but this one is no biggy. Would be nice if this was some simple fix though.
When i turn the truck on, the instrument panel lights come on, including the p-brake light.
But it turns off along with the others...even though the p-brake is engaged. This isn't normal is it?
I kinda doubt this one will be as easy as spraying WD-40 on the door locking mechanism, but hey, worth a shot
I tried searching, but could not find anything...
Thanks again

Have you checked the switch. They are notorious for being cheap. Normally just a bent piece of metal thet the pedal arm hits to close the circuit. Being down near the pedal they get stepped on alot and get broken.
I have a 98 Expedition and just started seeing the same problem and I drove a few miles the other day with the ebrake on. I did a quick 10 minute check and could see the switch up above the parking brake. You'll see a round black rubber bumper on the brake lever and that contacts the switch when the brake is disengaged to keep the light off. The switch is hard to get at but I managed to spray some contact cleaner at it and it seemed to help. I noticed that if I disengage the brake and let the pedal slam up, the light will not go on next time. The light will go on after I let the brake up slowly with my foot so it doesn't slam against the switch. When I have more time I'd like to get the switch out and give it a good cleaning and look for a cracked housing, etc. Tough to get at, though.
thanks, I'll see if I can find anything like that.
edit:
Well I looked and I couldnt find the rubber bumper that you were talking about, which appears to be the problem
When I pull the lever to let the brake up, the little button on the switch ends up getting pushed in too far I guess, and I had to use some needle nose plyers to pull it back out all the way. If I let the brake up slowly when the light is on, the switch doesnt get depressed (fully?) and the light does not go out.
So basically I need that stupid little rubber bumper thing-a-jig.
One day when I have more free time Im going to see if I cant get the switch out to clean it more thoroughly than just spraying some WD-40 at it, and I wonder if Ford will sell me the rubber bumper by itself (what scares me more is how much will they charge me for it).
