Door Ajar light
Door Ajar light
The light sometimes stays on even though all doors are closed properly...this normally wouldnt bug me, but sometimes that means the overhead lights all stay on, which, could kill the battery.
I could pull the fuse, but then my windows dont work, and its pitch black in there and hard to get the key in.
What I know so far:
I think its the sensor on the driver's door...reason being, if the ajar light is on, and I go above 15MPH, the lights all turn off (except the the door ajar light on the panel). If I park, and open the drivers door, the lights dont turn on (like it doesnt know the door is being opened).
But whenever I open the door from outside, they seem to turn on (but when I turn the engine on the door ajar light is still on).
Also, the light on the door panel NEVER seems to work...
So basically Im pretty sure its a sensor of some sort on the driver's door, or maybe there's a wire that gets shorted out every now and then.
Sometimes the leight will stay on for a week, sometimes it stays off and works fine like it is supposed to for 2 weeks or whatever...the light on the door panel doesnt seem to work in either case, but it could just be burned out.
Any ideas? Any other questions just ask, but I think I got it all...
Thanks.

cant believe I missed that thread
I'll go give that a try. Just spray a crapload of WD-40 on the latch...sounds simple enough =D
Would be MUCH easier than having to remove the panel and whatnot...

Awesome!
It seems to be working so far. I'll know for sure in a week, as Im wondering if my closing and opening the door 5-6 times didnt "fix" it again, or the WD-40 actually worked. Of course Im hoping that the WD-40 actually worked =D
Also, I figured out the driver's door panel light problem:
1) the light bulb is not installed
2) neither is the socket...there is a hole where the bulb should go, but no electrical socket there for the bulb to get power...
How do I remove the door panel so that I can see if the socket just need to be stuck back in the hole and a new bulb bought for it? I figured out that the two plastic pieces by the window just pop out...and I see there is a bolt behind a platic pop-on cover by the door handle, but Im wondering if that bolt holds the hole thing on???
Do I just remove that one bolt, and the whole panel will pop out of place or something?
Thanks for all the help so far
I think I will learn how to tear this truck down and put it back together eventually :P (no, not really, but I can dream cant I?)

Another satisfied customer.
The socket just twists on from the inside, and must have popped off. The attached R&R is from a window track question I answered a few months ago.:
You have to take the door apart, but it only takes a couple of minutes. The only thing that bugged me was that the panel is held on with those expandable plastic rivets that break when you pry them out.
Pry up the window and door lock panel and unplug the switches
Pull off the trim panel at back edge of the door (hard plastic piece running vertically), exposing plastic rivet #1 (Pry out/Break off)
Pull off triangular trim piece at top front of door panel near mirror, exposing plastic rivet #2. (Pry out/Break off)
Pry out slug near door handle and remove handle mechanisim (3/8 nutdriver I think)
Lift panel UP, and then out.Re-install lamp socket
The rivets will probably break, so pick up a pack of assorted at the autoparts store ahead of time ($3-$5)
Don't forget to hit all the doors with the WD-40!!!!

Done
My lights work, when they are supposed to, now =D
Turns out the light was there too, had just fallen out of the socket.
Love this forum
Only problems:
Yes, those plastic POS pins did break :P
socket on door handle was 11/32, not 3/8
door panel refused to go back on straight for about 5-10 minutes :P
The mosquitos were a bitch.
Other than that, Im happy :P
I just need to go get some pins to replace the ones that broke.
