Anybody Seen This Before?
On my way home from work tonite in my'92 F-150.Everything was fine when all of a sudden the ding-ding ding bell came on.I thought maybe the door was'nt closed good....but it was.I tried turning the lights off but it made no difference.Turned the interior light on and then it would'nt go off. Finally after i opened and closed door interior light went off.But the ding continued. When i got home i turned off ignition and rstarted..noticed that the ding did not come on like it should when engine started. But when i turned lights back on...dinging continued...even after i turned off lights...didnt stop until i turned off ignition again...What Gives?Anybody have any ideas? Thanks ... Dave
I had this problem last year, most notably in the winter, but it was on my '97. I think I traced it to the third door sensor being bad, but I never acted on it. (Plus, that probably won't help you with your '92 either - they didn't make third doors that far back, did they?)
Only thing I can suggest is checking both (or all) of the door switches for proper travel and contact. On a model of that vintage they're probably on the front edge of the door frame (not the door itself), looking like a little plunger.
Judging from what you wrote, however, it sounds like something more than just a bad door switch, especially if part of the system (the lights) shut off and the rest (the chime) stays on..
I'm just guessing anyway - good luck in whatever you find..

haha, sorry man its a ford. I love them but this is a problem. just like the gas gauge in the Fox body mustangs, my 95 Ranger and 96 F150 did the SAME Thing. the ranger was the door sensor, the f150 gave me an ulser unlil I stabbed the speaker with screwdriver, which is really hard cause its way under the dash
