'97 Blinker relay

Recently my blinkers and hazard lights will not operate. I checked the fuses and checked the function of the multiswitch according to Haynes manual. After much searching I found the relays to check. The autoparts store dont handle them and the counter guy told me to expect to pay about $20 apiece at Ford. Is there some kind of test to make sure they are the problem before I buy something I can't return. I have no other vehicle to swap test. Anything else I'm missing? Thanks

I think the flasher relay (located to the right of the steering column under the dash) is a standard part. What I mean is that you could pull a relay from the power distribution box under the hood (one for trailer lights would be a good choice) and see if it works. Check the part number on the flasher relay and try to match it up to one in a different location. If you "frog" these and the problem goes away, then at least you know you need a new relay. If it doesn't fix the problem I'm sure we can come up with some additional suggestions.

Almost forgot.:o Welcome to F150Online. Come on down to General Discussion for a proper welcome.

Thanks for the help. After I re-installed the multiswitch after testing the problem ceased. I did squirt a small amount of contact cleaner and suspect this may have been the difference, If it happens again, I 'll take apart the unit and thoroughly clean the contacts and go from there. I'm impressed w/ the amount of usefull info on this site.
