replacing instrument gauges

My 97 F150 is the entry level Work Truck trim level w/o a tach.

Would anyone know the answers to the following:

Is it possible to replace the gauge cluster from a 97 F150 with a tach?

Is there a wiring harness that plugs into the gauge panel and if so would the harness from the Work Truck trim level contain the wiring to operate the tach?

Thanks in advance for any suggetsions.

Hi Vince

Did you try "search"? If not weeded out, sometime ago, some here posted doing what you want to do.

Meantime, maybe someone here will update?

Good luck...OT

Smile Replacing Instrument Panels

Hi Vince

I am doin the same thing you are. I have a 98 F-150 without a tach and i really do not wanna put a tach on my dash.

I just happen to call two different Ford dealership and they both told me that it was possible but it would be time consuming. The first dealership told me it would run me up to 1,200 and the second dealership told me the instrument panel and the harness would be bout 1 large.

What i am gonna do is go to the local wrecking yard and get it from an F-150 there and hopefully it would be cheaper that way.

But if you figure out a better way tell me please.

Thanks for the responses.

The tachs at autometer.com is an option to consider.

I'm also going to contact a few salvage yards.

Hi Guys

Do try and find the info. Do your trucks have the passive anti-theft (chipped key)? You know that little blinking red light w/key off.

If so, as i recall, a new cluster w/tach will have to be reprogrammed. The stored anti theft info. in cluster will not recognize the code in your key. Also...the odo mileage will be different. Key will turn ign. on but i bet it want start.

Maybe others will update, it might be worth the wait to be sure?

Good luck...OT

Thanks for the heads up OT.

My truck just has a plain old key. I'm going to pursue an instrument cluster from a salvage yard but due to other priorities I now need to put that on the back burner until the 1st week in August.
