Question '97 f-150 Lariat - security key gone bad

i have a '97 f-150 lariat which came with a anti-theft device, which requires a special small fat black key to be inserted under the steering wheel before turning the ignition over, otherwise the car will not start. my problem........my key is broken!!! anyone know who/where i go to get a replacement key? if not, anyone know how the heck i can disable the device? any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, you will have to buy another key fob however; if I'm not mistaken, you can actually program the key fob on your own... I've seen the programming instructions on here before however; I did a quick search and couldn't find them...

Someone will come along and fill you in... sorry I can't help much...

Oh yeah, FYI, all F-150s, Explorers, Expeditions, Excursions come with that particular anti-theft feature; it's standard equipment.

Doesn't sound like any security device that Ford installed, I'd bet it is an aftermarket add-on. You should be able to trace the wiring from the receptacle the broken "key" fits into to a control module. Hopefully there is a mfr name and contact info......

Good luck.

It might also just be a locking switch that someone spliced into the ignition circuit. If so, I'd just take that out and reconnect the wire.

thats a anti car jacking device, like a lo-jack. Get someone that knows about car stereos, alarms, etc. to put the starter wires back together. (red/blue wire)
