Question Wiring flasher into brake/reverse lights

Hi folks,

I have a headlight flasher that is designed to alternately flash the hi beams like on police cruisers. I have no use for that, but I would like to use it to flash the brake lights, then reverse lights, back and forth. Each half of the flasher unit is rated to 30A so I don't think it will be a problem to use it this way.

The problem is I don't have a wiring schematic. Could somebody with access to one fill in some details for me? Even better, if anyone knows where I can find a schematic for the 2002 F-150 4x4 online, that would be great.

I mainly need to know if the brake (lt. green) and reverse (pink/black) wires that pass just above the brake pedal are carrying the actual load to the lamps, or if they are only making the switching circuit for a relay somewhere else.

If they are just part of a switching circuit, I'd appreciate any ideas about the best way to accomplish this.

Thanks in advance!

Pull out the bulbs for the tail lamps and look at the colors of the wires on the plug.

There are no relays in the circuits but the reverse light wires have come fro the switch in the gearbox and the green brake light wires goes to the multi-function (indicator) switch.
You should be able to "Tee" into the all the wires after the switches to achieve the affect you want but there's no guarantee that you won't screw something up by putting a back feed into the system.
I would leave it unless you are really desperate for a disco light show.

I have a Wig-Wag unit hooked up to the rear of my Expedition as well and can't remember the color of the wires that go to the reverse lights. I took the lights off the rear to be sure though and probed them with a Multi-Meter. Then I found the corresponding wire from the inside of the vehicle to hook up to them. I also have them wired to TWO switches. One turns on the Wig-Wag feature and the other turns them on solid. This allows me to have light while loading a trailer or something.
Anyway - I hope I was a little help. I suppose I can go check for you if you still do not know.
