The enable/disable mode is entered when the following series of steps is performed:

1. Close all doors.

2. Confirm that the ignition switch is in the OFF position.

Note:
Steps 4 through 8 must be performed within 30 seconds.

3. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.

4. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.

5. Turn the ignition switch from RUN to OFF.

6. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.

7. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.

8. Verify that the RAP module chirps the horn. This indicates that the RAP module is now in the enable/disable mode and ready to accept program changes.

9. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button one time to command the RAP module to toggle the autolock/relock feature ON or OFF.

10. Press the power door lock LOCK button once to enter the command.

11. Verify that the vehicle horn chirps one time to signal the RAP module confirmation of the command. There should only be one chirp indicating that the autolock/relock feature has been disabled. If one chirp is heard, followed by a longer honk, the autolock/relock feature has just been enabled. Return to step 10.

12. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position to exit the enable/disable mode.

13. Verify that the RAP module chirps the horn once to indicate that a feature has been changed.

The autolock and the appropriate alarm configuration are turned on at the factory on vehicles with automatic transmissions. Vehicles with manual transmissions have the autolock turned off at the factory. The RAP module returns to the prior setting any time battery power is interrupted.

What could be simpler? The kicker is the 30 seconds you have to perform steps 4 through 8. Try them out a few times before you start.

Regards

They must have changed the way autolock works since my 98 was made. My truck doesn't lock until it is put in gear and the brake is released - not something I usually do before leaving the truck.

That Auto-lock feature is an absolute disaster for bank robbers.

The Ford autolock system on a 2000 F150 operates as Pgmr says,
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Autolock
This feature will automatically lock all the doors when:
- all the doors are closed,
- the ignition key is in the ON position,
- the gearshift lever is shifted into R reverse or a forward gear and
- the brake pedal is released.
This feature will also automatically relock all the doors when:
- the ignition is running and any door is opened then closed, and
- you put the vehicle in motion by releasing the brake pedal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If your truck is locking when you start the truck then I suspect you have some aftermarket device installed (maybe by the dealer before the truck was even purchased) that is locking the doors.

That would also explain why the autolock deactivate procedure is not working for you either. Additionally, you could always go to the dealer - if you have the RAP module they can disable Autolock with a diagnostic tool.

Maybe Davedub has the manual tx. I'm not sure how it would know when it was in gear (other than reverse), so it might lock right away. That would explain why they come from the factory w/autolock disabled.

Pgmr,

The 5 spd manual is not available with the 5.4.

Dave,

Do the doors lock after you press on the brake pedal or as soon as the truck starts or as soon as the key is turned and reaches the run postion?

No, I doubt a defective RAP would do that. It sounds like somebody added an aftermarket system (remote keyless entry, alarm, or remote starter, for example) to your truck.

Dave,

Does the cruse control operate properly? Also when you try to deactivate the system describe the horn honks. How many, how long and when do they happen during the process. Try reactivating and then deactivating the system and describe the horns.
