Remote Start or Securilock?

Hey, all:

Well, I still plan to get an alarm put on Friday. The JTI JT4. The guy at the alarm place said to have some spares made w/o the Securilock chip b/c he has to mount one of my factory keys on the steering column to bypass the factory security so my remote start will work. Does this seem right/worth it? I really like the novelty of the remote start, but I don't want people to be able to hotwire my truck. Thanks alot.

There are PATS bypass modules that don't require that you leave a key in your truck. I have the DEI bypass module on my truck and it only bypasses PATS when remote starting. You could ask your installer if the DEI module would work with the JT 4 alarm.

That sounds like a very un-professional installer or one who lacks a good knowledge of vehicle security.

FWIW, a system set up like that will VOID your auto insurance against theft and resulting damage. A key in the vehicle is a big no-no.

Not the first time I've heard of this, but there are ways around it for these trucks...

Thanks!

Thanks for the replys. I've been looking around on the net, and I think I'll definitely go with a DEI product after your comments and all I've read. Closer9, you said your guy's name was Mike at Best Buy? I'll go see if he's there today. Thanks again.

Well, I'm going with Best Buy

I just got off the phone with Mike, the "lead installer" at our local Best Buy, and he explained things really well to me (thanks for the lead, closer9). I'm going with the DEI/Avital AviStart 3300. He will need both keys to program the PATS bypass module, but I will retain both factory keys as well as my PATS capability. The bypass module will send the PATS signal when I use the remote start. Thanks for the heads up, RobDude30 and pw1981, and thanks again closer9 for recommending Mike. The floor reps were pretty clueless, but he was right on. The whole thing will cost right around $400.

Hey, glad you got it figured out. That's sounds about right. There's another guy there. "Jason" I think? He's pretty good too. He got things started on my truck, and Mike finished it up. With the addons it took them two days...

Some vehicles require the use of a universal bypass (use of a spare key under the dash) DEI covers alot of the fords, as well as Trilogix PKF, but they do not have 100% coverage. The only thing needed is the transponder in the head of the key. When I use that option, I cut 2 inches off the key. So even if someone gets under there, they cant do anything with it.

Haku,

Sorry but thats incorrect. With the transponder in teh vehicle, PATS/SecuriLock is disabled and the truck can be "hot wired" just like any vehicle without any effort at all.

A PATS transponder in the car other than the DEI will be a major security risk.

Whoaaa, you lost me. It doesnt matter what brand of bypass you use, its the same. Dei, one wire to ground, and its activated, so your a little off on that statement. ALL bypass kits are like that. If you know how they operate, you can activate them. Trilogix's bypass are keyless, and "eye"less, so you dont have to put an eye next to the ignition switch. I have installed countless remote starts on Fords, Im not partiulcar on bypass kits, DEI, Crimestopper, Trilogix.... dont matter too me. But dont mislead people that DEI are the best, there not. If someone wants to steal your truck, having or not having transponder bypass kit installed makes no difference to them.

PATS bypass

Anyone know whether the PATS system has changed between 2002 and 2003 model years?
I'm getting ready to install a Ford remote start/keyless entry on my '03 Taurus. Trouble is the PATS bypass that came with the kit has a different part number than what's listed in the wire color chart. Chart lists 1L2Z-19G365-AB. The one I have is the same number but starts with 1L3Z. Also the chart only lists up to 2002 model year.
