Where did you mount your switches?

I am wondering where to mount switches for neons, fog lights, etc. Can anyone post pics or give tips on some good places to mount them? I have a reg. cab by the way.

did he say neons?

he didn't , did he?

he did, he did say neons...

ya kno what would be great, you could put that black light velour poster material on your interior with a little elvis theme or something ( no offence, your majesty, mr. Presley, sir).

just a joshin wid ja a bit,

the switches; decisions, decisions...

find a place where it is liable to look like it belongs there, (undre ashtray?, console? foot pedal adjustment panel? under front axle?)

look behind the panel where you would like to put it.

Can you get wire to it?

Will you put a little ventilation into heater core, or other like maladies by drilling into chosen placement area?

If it looks like it checks out, run your cable,

test it.

does it work?

nice job, have a beer.

then drill, and install.

Good luck,

and please no neon

or powered by ford stickers either, the smart ones of know that already, and the dumb don't understand.

To answer your question :

Either side of the steering wheel has room. Just watch out there is some metal back there.
I surface mounted my Fog lights, as that is the type of switch that came with the PIAAs. You can cut in switched there as well.

Kind of a reach but there is room under the cup holder / ash tray area ( I use that switch for turning off the cup holder LEDs ). Again watch out for the metal supports back there when you drill in.

If you don't mind a bit of work, you can mount them in the front of the console, or above the cup holder. I have the LEDs there to light the cup holders, but you get the idea. The front of the console has room as well.

You just need to think of how far you want to reach to turn them on, and what type of switch it is ( round or square ) for ease of install. The trim around the steering column pulls right off, so if you are putting in square switches, and need to cut them in with a Dremel or a hot knife, this is an easy piece to take to the work bench. The other pieces requie a little more work when removing them.

Good luck.

Neon isn't really considered rice here. I already have two 10" neons mounted under the dash that shine on the floor board right now. I have them spliced into a cig adapter so I need to run them to switches. I might just run them to my subs so they flash to the beat, but I will need switches for other things.

I'll take a look at the places you two mentioned.

Thanks

I added 2 swithces to the right of steering column. The Green switch is for the Driving lights, the Red switch is for the back-up lights.

I've used the panel that spans over your steering column several times for a number of switch and indicator light installations on a number of F-150's. The panel is simply snapped in and has tons of room behind it for wiring relays, etc. (Ease of use was the primary reason for selecting this location.) My personal truck uses that panel for a switch for my amber light bar and the holder for my cell phone.
