Do you have a tow package? I don't use the braking system with my truck, so I used my inside brake harness wires to pull power for my accessories. If I am not mistaken, it is a 30amp circuit.

Where on the fuse panel is the trailer brake wiring - is it even on the fuse panel? That sounds like a great source for my accessory power too. One thing: is the 12 vdc on when the ignition is off? Kind of important for my needs.

Tks,

RR

To my knowledge, the trailer wires are switched, not constant.

For a power inverter, a direct connection to the battery is the only reliable way to connect it in my opinion. That, or on the input gromet for the large fuse box under the hood. Any place else in the truck likely wasn't designed for that heavy a load, especially if you plan to leave stuff on while the truck is off.

You can actually use the power point so long as the load on the inverter isn't large. If the load is 100 watts (ac) or less, the power point can easily handle it.

I use a small 200 watt inverter just to recharge or operate small electronic equipment such as a laptop and cell phone. The lighter sockets work just fine. Doesn't even get warm.

BTW, if anybody is wondering, it's way cheaper to just buy an inverter to use your home charger to charge your cellphone on the road. Got tired of buying a new car cord whenever I got a new phone every two years.
