Question Key/Lock question

Hey guys, I recently picked up a "pre-owned" F150 Supercrew (2002)...

Unfortunately, it's missing a few things...

namely the second set of keys/key-fob

also the code for the keypad on the door

Here's my questions:

Is the key coded in any way, or can I just go to local hardware store and get a new one made, or am I going to have to go to Ford to get replacement?

Secondly, any idea on how much one of those darn key-fobs run?

Third, how can I find out the code for door keypad?

Thanks
Dan

I can answer only one of the three questions...

You'll have to go to the dealership or another Ford/Lincoln/Merc dealership to get the fob programmed. It has a microchip in it and just not just any cut key from Home Depot will work.

You may have some luck finding one on ebay. They typically come with instructions on how to program them if you can have someone cut it for you. I don't know the procedure but, it doesn't necessarily have to be done totally by the stealership...

Your owners manual might have instructions on how to program the FOB for the PATS system (passive anti-theft system).

yes with only one set of keys a dealer will have to program the fob, if u had two it is a easy procedure in the manual, its something like turn ign on then off then insert next key and then on and off, well something like that, but to do it yourself you need TWO already programmed keys.

as for the 5 digit code, get a flashlight and shine it up the drivers side kick panel, past the emergency brake, along the drivers side outside wall, there u will find a black module with a white sticker, on this sticker is a 5 digit code, thats your code, once u have that u can clear all the other codes and enter your own, for this procedure is aslo in the manual..

Thanks guys...

The links to ebay were great.. I should be able to grab a new FOB with little problem...

That second key situation however, is a bit disappointing.

I guess the idiots at the car dealer that took this truck in trade, had no clue the value on that second key/fob set.

Actually I don't know what it's going to cost specifically, but I imagine that it ain't gonna be cheap to have to go to dealer to get a new key made...

Thanks
Dan

I have verified that it DOES take two keys to be able to easily (DIY) make a third key...

I have only one key, and therefore am screwed in that aspect.

Is there a minimum number of fobs to self program a new one? Or can I pick one off ebay, and do it myself (since I only have one fob as well)..

Thanks again
Dan

No minumn on keyless remotes and you can do it yourself. I have a color instruction chart if needed.

Does it matter which Ford Part No/FCC ID is on the FOBs...

The one that I have has Part No: 2L3T-15K601-AA
FCC ID: CWTWB1U331
CAN: 1788 104 575

Some of the ones I'm finding on Ebay have the following info, and have been listed as remote for Ford F150

Part No: F8DB-15K601-AA

Thanks
Dan

Danny,
Yes, I would like the color chart if you have it available.

Thanks

yes it does matter on the # on the remotes. the chart explains it. I dont think private messaging works (at least for me) so i need an email address unless you can get through to me on PM.

For '98-current F150 both the 2L3T- and F8DB-15K601-AA keyfobs will work. The F8DB- is older, the 2L3T is an improved version.

Also, there are no minimum number of fobs necessary for programming - just make sure you program all the fobs you plan to use at the same time. When you enter programming mode and program a new fob it erases all previously programmed keyfobs.

There is a limit on the maximum number of fobs that can be programmed though (typically 4).
