Power Door Locks Work Intermitently
My 2000 F150 Lariat has a problem with the left door power lock. it works intermitently. Makes no difference if you use the remote, keyless entry or door panel switch. Some days I have no problem other days does not work. Sometimes both doors have the same problem.
Hmm, my 2000 F150 Lariat is doing the same thing sometimes. BUt seems to be more of a problem on the pax side, but also on the drivers sometimes. You hear the motor like it is wanting to come up and down, lock just doesnt go up or down.

Power Lock Problems
My 2001 F150 has similar problems that just recently started.
Drivers door works most of the time, passenger door works sometimes. When they don't work the locks move up about half way but won't completely unlock. Remote or door control does not matter, same outcome. When I drive it for a bit, they work fine. If the truck sits overnite or I lock.unlock the doors a couple of times while not running, neither will work. It seems like there is a power/voltage problem. I called local dealer, they think the lock motors are bad but need to check it. I do not think it's the motors but rather a relay or something.
Anyone have a diagram of how these things are wired?.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't believe this to be your problem but the lock actuators do have overheat protection in them. If you cycle the locks rapidly several times the protection kicks in to prevent thermal damage to the actuators.

Thanx again.

buschman,
Is there a manual reset for this or is it just "wait it out" thing?
I sure was glad to see your post though. This evening I put my 3 yr old in the passinger side and he decided to play "updownupdownupdownupdownupdown....." with the locks as I was walking to the drivers side. By the time I got in, the locks were behaving just like wjssgs described.

There's no manual reset but you shouldn't see this under normal conditions - you typically have to cycle the locks rapidly about 15 times before the protection mode kicks in. After they cool everything is back to normal.

Sounds exactly like the door lock actuator...
Have replaced a numerous amounts of these things & they aren't a cake walk to replace either. You have to just about take the whole lock out to replace. They redesigned these things to integrate into the latch itself.. Talk about "Not leaving well enough alone" and that's when these problems that you are describing started...
Just my $0.02 worth..
Good Luck!
