No brakelights?

2000 F-150, 4x4 Off-road,Supercab, Lariat, 5.4 yada, yada, yada. No brake lights. All fuses in cab and under hood are good, third brake light works. Turn signals, hazard flashers and all other lights work. Power in and out of brake light switch is good, bulbs are good. Well taken care of, garaged all of the time, and they just quit. What gives, anyone else had this problem? Possible solutions? Any help greatly App.

Thanks.

brake lamps

sounds like a bad turn signal switch. you can verify by checking power to the switch at the light green wire with BRAKES APPLIED, if you have power there replace the switch.

You've got to do some more detective work on where you're missing / loosing power. I'd recommend checking for brake light voltage / signal at the trailer connector. If you have a flat 4 connector, your running lights will be the brown wire and the brake / turn lights will be the yellow (left) and green (right) wires. If you have a signal there. then it's a matter of tracing back in the harness to where you loose the signal. My '97 had a similar problem (no rear running lights) and we traced the problem to a bad connector under the hood.

If you're in a real pinch, you can temporarily jump from your trailer harness to your regular harness to get lights. I'd only recommend that to get you home though. Remember, brake lights are important to the clown behind you.

Thanks for the input. After reading some other previous posts I think I've located the problem. If I put the tilt wheel all the way up - brake lights work. Move the tilt wheel down - even one notch - and no brake lights. It appears to be a bad connection at the connector plug inside the top of the steering column that goes to the multi-function switch (wipers, turn signals, high beam, etc) . Hope to have it apart and fixed this evening. Thanks again for the advice.
