Access to cab interior

I'm curious if anyone has tried to route wiring (in my case, RG-58 coaxial cable) from under the bed of the truck into the cab interior? On my '01 XLT SCab, between the bed and rear of the cab, there appear to be two black plastic oval ports, which I'm guessing are air vents. I wonder if it would be possible to route the coax through one of these from underneath the bed of the truck.

I'm also curious if the bed is grounded to the frame and to the cab? I know the bed is supposed to be on rubber mounts, but did they ground the bed to the frame? I have a flareside, so the external surfaces of the bed are all fiberglass covered. Guess I can get out my ohmmeter and find out that way.

Thanks for any info.

I ran mine underneath the drivers side of the cab, you should be able to see some little holes there that have rubber plugs in them, next remove the little plastic plate that sits on the floor right next to the door, do this by pulling straight up on it, then you can see your cable down in the holes, then run it underneath the door sill, and up to your dash. if you have any more questions, just ask. I know this may not be real clear.

Thanks for the info, I know of that plate, I'll try pulling it up and seeing if I can come up through there. Everyone's been telling me I have to drill through the back of the cab, but thought I'd ask in case anybody had solved this before.

I think the plastic do-hickies on the back of the cab are so called "low noise" air vents, probably heavily baffled, and hard to route anything through.

I'll post what I find out.

Actually they're air extractors - they let the air escape from inside the cab when you have your blower on or you slam your door(s). As such, I would stay away from them - there are other rubber plugs that you can violate though.

The black rubber-like oval plugs are exactly what you want...simply cut a small X in the plug and run your wires through there. The wires can be routed from the door sill to the underside of the cab using this method. If you are concerned about leaks, use a dab of sealant to seal things up.
