heater switch problem
heater switch problem
1997 f150 4.6l v8 The problem is this, no matter what you turn the airflow control switch to, the air won't blow out the floor vent. Set it on floor and it blows out the defroster. Set on panel and floor, it blows out the panel. Set it on defrost and floor, it blows out the defroster. There actually is a very small amout of air that comes through the floor vent, but not enough.
I found what looks to be an electronic control switch/box under the shroud surrounding the floor vent, but I don't know what it controls or does. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I checked all the fuses inside the cab of the truck too. Haven't checked the links and fuses under the hood yet. None found burned so far.
thanks
stephen

The actuator you are looking at is the blend door actuator. It controls the amount of heat by mixing fresh air with air from the heater core.
The direction of where the air comes out is controled by vacuum operated servos however.
You may want to contact Faxon Auto Literature in Riverside California(dont have the number handy, but information does) and pick up an EVTM(Electo-Vacuum Trouble Shooting Manual) for your year truck.
