Unhappy Problem with A/C and Heat

I have a little problem. My heat and A/C does not change, no matter what I set the control to. Luckily, it is stuck on a medium heat setting - but as soon as the temperature outside gets warmer, I am screwed.

Does anyone have ideas on what I can check?

Check the actual blendoor switch **** itself, switch it with another ****.If ok, problem may be blendoor actuator or blendoor broken

What on earth will swapping ***** do? If the **** itself is bad for some off the wall reason and is not gripping the shaft, it would not stop on the ends. You would be able to spin it around and around and around.
If you are thinking that the guts connected to the **** can be swapped around, they cant.

Actually if the **** is stripped, it wont spin all the way around. The plastic groove that limits its travel isnt the same thing that turns the potentiometer. Pull the **** off and turn the pot with needle nose pliers. If the temp still doesnt change, you have wither a bad pot or blend door actuator. I see all 3 (****, pot, actuator) cause the problem regularly, so you will have to diagnose it yourself.

Thanks for the info... I took the potentiometer off and measured it with an ohmmeter. The resistance between pins 2 and 3 varied as was expected. But the resistance between 1 and 2 -and- 1 and 3 did not.

In my opinion, one of the potentiometers inside is bad and I need to replace the whole unit. What do you think?

I just bought a new pot from the Ford dealership for $11 and measured the resistance between the pins. As I expected, the resistance between 1-2 and 2-3 changed as the pot is turned.

For future reference, if anyone searches this posting and it looking for hints on troubleshooting this problem, download this pdf:

Thanks for all the help!!!

Just for everyone's info it could be the ****. This happened to me on my 98. The part of the **** that fits onto the shaft was cracked. It still turned normally, but did not turn the shaft.
