03 XL Tach
03 XL Tach
I went and the oil changed at my dealer today. While I was there I looked at all of the new trucks that they have. I wasn't interested, but was just looking. I found a truck exactly like mine Except that it was an 03. My truck is a 2002 s/c XL Sport. Well I looked at them to see if there were any changes at all between the 02 and 03 models and I found one. Almost all of the 03 XL models came with the upgraded instrument cluster, meaning that they included a tach with like the XLT's have. I didn't look at the regular cab's, but all of the supercabs had the tach's. That makes me mad knowing that I could have probably waited another month and got an 03 with this.
Does anyone know if all of the 03's came with the tach or if it was just the Sports model?
I want a tach, but I don't want a big external one. Oh well, I guess that is just the way that it goes.

paulv107,
While this may not be the look you are after.
Autometer makes a steering column pod for the 2-1/16" gauges.
This is added over the existing cover for the steering column, and fits from the left hand side where the seam is at, to the right hand side seam, below the gear shifter.
The trick is finding a 2-1/16" tach that you like.
I use the Autometer 26XX series gauges, as they seem to match the stock gauges from 01.
Another option is a pillar mount tach. I think that Neal the HP freak said that the single A-pillar pods take 3" gauges, try a search on his SN, or look in his gallery to see them, I think he still has the single A-pillar, and a pic of the steering column pod.
The other option is just to the right of the steering column on the U shaped dash part ( below the factory gauge set ).
I put a Vac gauge here ( pic in the gallery ), and the A/F is on the steering column pod ( sorry no pics of that one yet ).
This area is kind of blocked by the steering wheel, the way I have my steering wheel and seat set, yours might not be the same, so it might work.
A 2-1/16" gauge fits in there slightly slanted.
The column pod slightly blocks the odometer, but again that is from the way I have my setup ( seat & wheel ).
Just a few thoughts that might interest you in your quest for a tach, without having to get a whole new gauge pod, have the PATS stuff done, and out the door with a $500+ bill
