Cool Silverstars: Are They Worth It ?

I've seen a few postings; I've seen the Silverstars at AutoZone.

I'm wondering, are they really that much better than the stock lamps ?

I have not had an opportunity to see them in action. Do you really notice a difference, or is it one of those "preference" kind of mods ?

Thanks in advance for any input...

They definately have a nice white color, although nothing like the xenon on my wifes car.
As far as more light? ... eh, maybe but not less for sure.

worth $50 a pair? Probably not, but if you have to replace a burned bulb anyway, sure, get the Siverstars.

~~Lets put it this way: If someone came up to me and said " I'll give you $50 and trade you my stock bulbs for those Siverstars" I would take it.

I went from stock to Flooser 100/80 W lights about 19 months ago.
Last month I went from the Floosers to the Silverstars, and the Floosers looked yellow when I did the single headlight check against the back wall of my garage ( white satin finish ).

The light output to the eye looked almost the same between the silverstars and the 100/80W bulbs. Did not have my light meter here to check it against, to know for sure either way.

The bulbs at AutoZone are 19.99 each, and ther eis a $ 10.00 mail in rebate. So the set is 39.98 + your local tax ( mine is 6.75% ) 42.86 less the 9.62 form the rebate ( don't forget your stamp cost ) is a cost of 33.24 for the bulbs. Not a bad upgrade at all.
Before anyone asks, no they are no where near the same as the HID upgrades Can't be done without a transformer no matter what any web page states ( "...just like a HID upgrade at a fraction of the cost... )

Yeah, if you want true HID..... you've gotta upgrade...

But, on the flip side, my Xenarcs are worth EVERY LAST PENNY... by far and away the best mod I've done... I wish I had paid $800 for them when they first came out.

Theres a big difference between Xenarcs and Silverstar bulbs, in price and performance.

So which do you have RockPick? It looks like you have the Xenarcs so how can you say the Silverstars are "DEFINATELY WORTH IT... No question... " ?

SSCULLY -

Did you do any modifications to your rig when you put the 100/80's in ? Larger wiring, relays, etc. ?
No problems with the headlamp covers getting too hot or anything like that ?

Thanks for any info...

No I didn't.

Did the calculations, and then checked on the back side with a slamp meter.

The load was well under the 10amp fuse for each side, and the wiring and connector show no signs of dedgreation after 18 months of usage.

My friend that bought my last truck still has them in there after 8 years, without any signs of a problem.

Another new registered memeber ( a "mobile electronics installer" ) tried to tel me that I would ignite the harness on fire, melt the bulb connector, and fry the alternator by doing this.

Guess the additional 6 amps that the larger bulb set use is enough to fry the alt. Not to mention my 2 sets of PIAA lights and my electric fans

Well worth it to me. I replaced all 4. heads and fogs with Silverstars. $80.00 for all before rebate. Had to trim one of the three flanges on the fogs, but was no problem with a Dremel tool. BTW, the Dremel tool has saved me alot of work with the fog light mod on 4 trucks, and now with the Silverstar fogs on this truck.

The light cast by the Silverstars is not necessarily brighter, just whiter. It makes objects show up much better at night. Alot more detail. I highly recommend them.

Cool After reading all these...

I think you guys talked me into getting a couple of Silverstars. (Good excuse anyway !)

Hopefully, that will hold me until the Xenarc prices slip below $300.

I know they're nice, but I've got some pulley's and electric fans to buy before those babys !!

Thanks to all for replying with good, usable info.

This board rocks !!!
