i dont know about 2001 but this is probably worth a check. I have a 98 so its probably a different story, but is easy to look. In my trck above the pedals on my truck theres a small module with a red light. Behind this module if you look theres a very very small black toggle button. Sometimes when i want to start my truck i have to put the key in and crank it and then hit that button, and then it will fire right up. Again dont know about your year but its a ez check.

My truck is stalling and the theft light is blinking. The truck will not restart. Also, I saw my odometer do some weird things before. Now the odometer blinks on and of at random and sometimes displays dashes all the way across.
Help....The dealer wants to replace some module for 500.00+ and they said this isnt the only problem so it is going to cost much more....
I have a 99 f150 4x4 with the 5.4l

Watch the THEFT light in your instrument cluster - it will flash rapidly for a minute then blink out a two digit code (i.e one flash, long pause, two flashes, etc). It will repeat that two digit code ten times - let us know what it is doing.

Sounds like it may very well be a bad HEC module (hybrid electronic cluster). Theres not much we can do to help without scanning for codes and following the related pinpoint test. I dont know where the information is comming from about watching a flashout code from the theft lamp on a factory system? Maybe buschman can comment somemore on this? I looked through the 99 f150 manual on PATS systems and found no info about a flashout method of reading codes. Did I miss something? or our we talking about an add on system here? I am interested in hearing more about this, sounds like i may learn something new and useful.

NOOOOO!!!! STOP!!! Check my post (the 5th one) on this thread first! I have discovered a potential fix!

It involves making sure your #5 and #4 fuse panel relays are good!

I was searching for this problem to help someone that was helping someone else. But I called them back and they got someone that worked from ford to look at their truck. The guys front windsheild leaked from getting in a wreck or something. Any way the ford tech. said that water shorted some module in the dash.

The truck would not always start up and all of the lights and guages were going haywire.
