Wiring question. PLZ HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 02 F150 supercrew. An wanting to run 100/80w driver & 100w fog lights. And stock wattage is 65/55 my stock fog lights are 65. So a 35watt increase on my fog, and 35/25 watt increase off power.

What would I need so I don't run into any problems with the harness melting?

I don't think you could use the stock switch without it melting, much less the harness....

You would need a very complicated system of relays and auxillary wiring to make that go without problems.

I got them in, havn't a problem yet, but only got about an hr on them. They aren't brighter then my stocks in half lited area's, but when its all black they work like a dream. I had highbeams on for an hr, and the wires or lights where hot so that good news. I think I need to adjust them, they are shinning too low.

I'd suggest that the reason you're not seeing a significant difference with your headlights is that your stock wiring isn't up to the task and you're seeing the result in heat. (I'm sure some folks will disagree with me here too.) I fully recommend an aftermarket HD harness to get the maximum result out of your headlights. When I added the HD harness for my 80/100w bulbs, there was a difference.

As for your fogs, I'd bet that the stock MFS (headlight switch) won't last long with 100w bulbs. I'm running 80w bulbs in mine and monitoring the situation from a wiring standpoint. I might also worry about melting housings / lenses with that much fire power.

I didn't install them in my fog lights. I'm gonna send those ones back. Where can I get a HD wiring harness at a half decent price?? Are they hard to install? Thats probally the problem with them then, cause they are putting out much more then stock, just whiter light.

2002S crew,

I got most of my stuff from a place called Competition Limited in Michigan. (highoutputbulbs.com) They're great to work with and everything I order seems to arrive in a couple of days.

The HD harness I got from them was originally ordered for my '97 and I've just swapped it in and out of trucks as I've bought and sold them. It takes about 30 minutes to install and only requires removal of your headlights and the black plastic trim panel above your grill and radiator supports. I've seen one person post here that says there's no need for an HD harness with higher output bulbs, but my experience says they work. By the way, given the choice of spending an extra 50 bucks or possibly frying my stock harness (or even the whole truck), I'll go with the safe route.
