JackMaddenFord won't sell me a FX4 Cluster

Went in to the parts department today and asked about swapping out my STX Instrument Cluster with a FX4....said that I wanted a Tach to look at.
Parts guy told me that all he could sell me was an OEM STX cluster.

Would not budge.

Why aren't Ford dealers consistent on what they will and will not sell?
Other people on the site have done the swap without any problems.

Ford dealerships are franchises. Each and every one is a private business. I have had them refuse to sell me a door actuator. It didn't come stock, they won't sell it. Others will mod your truck till it looks like a Pimpmobile.
Ignorance is also popular at Ford dealerships.
When I wanted to add cruise, the local place offered to order the kit for me, the parts guy knew it was just the wheel. I went over to service, and the head mechanic said that you had to put a servo under the hood, etc. etc. and that it would cost 400 for labor, plus the kit. Then his boss came over and told him that they wouldn't install it. If it didn't come stock, they were prohibited from adding anything. Sound systems, door locks, rims, anything that didn't come stock was prohibited.
I bought a cruise wheel for lots less, had it programmed by another dealership. Nothing else changed of course, just as has been posted many times.

Last time I was at the dealership, I asked about the wheel liners, (for which they charged twice the online price) and just for fun, I asked about the cruise. The service guys still say you need a servo etc. under the hood, and they still say Ford prohibits installing them.

When these idiots give you bad info, just drive to the next Ford shop.
Chris

Yes, it really varies from dealership to dealership.

100% correct.

It is funny to think about the fact the we, being members of this great community, probably know more than 90% of the Ford dealerships and their employees. It is a passion to us, it is a job to them.

That, of course, is a general statement. Luckily the guy who sold me my truck is awesome and is as in to it as I am. He calls me regularly asking how my mods are going and to stop by and show him. He knows and speaks to me about the things we talk about here - he is very informed as to the trucks he is selling and what is availble for them, which I like a lot. And to boot, he sells me Genuine Ford Accessories at his cost! :rocker:

Back to the topic OP - get a cluster off of eBay. Usually the seller will program the mileage for you. Then all you have to do is take it to a dealership to get programmed then install it.

I bought my truck from them and have no problems with anything there. Did
you ask too speak to the parts geek's boss ? I even had them buy me my tonneau cover after their lame tech scratched my wheel doing the clutch pak
fix ( and if you saw how miniscule the scratch was that I was being anal about you would chit that the service manager agreed to hook me up) I even had them order me a whole speedo setup for my daughters taurus wagon, I
AM SHOCKED THEY DIDN'T HELP YOU OUT. Maybe I'll go down there and give 'em a ration of crap for ya.. Though there is one dude that works there that needs a frickin punch and maybe you dealt with him. I dealt with him once and ONLY once and ever since I went over his head he goes out of his way to help me now..

I suggest if you don't scoop one elsewhere other than a dealer that you
tel them your driving an fx4..

Good luck !!!

jtz, you mean I could have gotten a free tonneau cover for the scratch the detail guys did on my fender?

I took the truck in 1 wk after getting it for the "new purchase detail" and when I got it back, I had a scratch to the primer about 8" long but VERY tiny on my front left fender. I called my rep and he said hed get it fixed by the body shop at no cost. I never thought about turning to major biotch mode to get anything FREE out of it.

Then when I took it in on Friday to get the oil changed, they bent my flame hitch trim thing in 1/2 from the car washer! But they guy wroteme a $20 check for it. LOL And it didnt cost 1/2 of that!

Maybe I should bitch. But do you think its too late? I told my rep (who actually doesnt work there anymore.. focker..) that I would not be able to bring the truck in for a while as I work and go to college and cant leave it for 2-3 days and they were being a pill about a rental. But I did get a rental for FREE (I dont have the extended warrenty) when I just had to get an oil change b/c I had to drop it off at 7 am and go to work then class.

I called one of 4 Ford places here in Jax and one guy could NOT grasp the idea of putting the Mark LT handles on a F150! He just didnt get it! Then I asked when I was at my own dealership on Friday and the girl working there told me the prices and all that and understood totally. Weird.

A FREE tonneau cover indeed. I had been pricing them too buy one for about
a week at the time. I went in for the clutch pak fix knowing they would pop off the tires. When I went back to pick up the truck I walked over to look at
it to see a scratch ( and I do mean little miniscule scratch on my wheel ) I
immediately asked to see the service manager, his name is Al I believe, showed him the scratch and told him it was unexceptable because it was mint
when I brought it in and I wanted a new one, he says to me " but John that's
a $400. wheel " and I repeated " that was mint when I brought it in " Then I says to him " I tell you what, I'll comprimise, you buy me the tonneau cover
for $280. and I'll live with the scratch " he says " deal, go order it over at parts, 4 days later I have a Ford soft tonneau with snaps ...

NEVER let them tell you what you'll do with your $... NEVER...
I also got three free oil changes 'cuz their tech didn't wipe off the excees oil
from the little catch shield underneath when he did a change and I had to crawl under there and do it myself.. You don't have to be rude, just to the point.... and stick to your guns ......

the service dept big shot is Barry Madden, you can razz him too, a short
stocky dude with white hair who sits in that office right behind the service writers....

Go get 'em .........

blitzkrieg Jul 11, 2005 08:22 PM

The reason the dealer gave you the tonneau cover (which was a bargain for him over a new wheel cost adjusted) is because he can write the cover off. The wheel would have been recorded as a warranty repair (damaged by staff).

You didn't get the great deal you are thinking. ;)

RamSS/T Jul 11, 2005 08:27 PM

LOL...yeah, if he had scratched one of my wheels I dont think a free tonneau cover would have cut it either.
