My SuperChip

Mike,
Hope you catch this. I have a SuperChip flip chip in my 2002 Screw. I was curious as to your opinion on when towing should i run the 87 or 92 octane program? Reason I ask is that when I hit about 70mph she downshifts and rpms go up to 2300 or so. I was going to test the 87 program while towing next. Always run 92 octane regardless.

Also, when you flip the chip, how long does the new program take to take effect? and if i get a supercharger will i need to have the chip reprogrammed?

Hi F-150aGoGo,

When you're towing I would think you'd want maximum power, and that being the case, you'd run it on the full performance program on Side 2 that requires premium gas only.

Whatever you do, don't run it on premium gas on the Flip Chip's 87 octane program, as you will only cause your engine to make even *less* power, not more, as the fuel curves are off. That engine is specifically tuned for 2 different octane levels with the Flip Chip, and you need to use it properly for the engine to run as it should.

This is very basic: lower octane=lower power. Tuning for low octane is *always* going to deliver less power than tuning for higher octane, all else being equal.

As far as how ling it takes for the program change to take effect, without disconnecting the battery it takes about 20-50 miles or so & you'll start getting additional power when you change from the 87 octane program to the premium gas program; it will take a couple hundred miles to get maximum benefit of the program change in your situation, but you'll start getting additional poeer in 20-50 miles or so.

Yes, anytime you install a supercharger you will need completely different engine tuning from what you have now, which is designed for a naturally aspirated engine.

If you want to go over any of this in more detail, give us a call & we'll be happy to!
