It is not that hard to install. The hardest part is making sure that you gett all of the gunk off of the computer board. You can get a chip burned for 89 gas but you will not get the same results as you would with one burnt for 91 octane. Basically what happens when you run 89 octane with a chip burned for 91 you will have bad detonation. This will result in "pinging" sound. For a short amount of time doing this it should not do that much damage but it probalby will do a little even if you are unable to tell. One thing that you might consider is also looking at the supertuners. They have allot more things you can do and are simple to use. This just plugs into your port under your dash. Just some food for thought. I personally really like my superchip

Hi blk98,

TomatoTruck gave some great info in his post, so I'll just go over a couple things..................

As TomatoTruck mentioned, we can make you a special Superchip program that you can use with only 89 octane, but you aren't going to get the power gain from it that you will from our normal full performance tuning for premium gasoline.

I suggest that you forget about trying to use cheaper lower grade fuel when towing, cheap gas and more power do not go hand in hand, they are virtual opposites in fact.

Now what you could do is what a lot of our other custoemrs towing big loads are doing, and that is to go with our 2-program Superchip Flip Chip. We offer it in a dual octane configuration so you'll have one program for use on 87 or 89 octane, and then our full performance program that requires at least 91 octane, available at the flip of it's toggle switch.

The other choice would be to use our Superchips Micro Tuner, as it's a quicker & easier installation, and you can easily return the program back to stock when you don't need the extra power for towing.

We do have a lot of customers who are having to tow big loads, and we have helped get their power up so they can do that comfortably in a variety of ways, so you might want to give us a call and go over all your options, etc. before deciding what you want to do, we'll be happy to go over all of this with you.

Good luck!

Thanks for defining "flip chip" I have been wondering what that term meant for a long time. Now it makes sense what I have read.

Hi blk98,

No, we do not have a toll-free number. However, if your situation is such that you can't make a long-distance call from work, you can always just give us a quick call from home after hours & leave a message on our voicemail, and we'll be happy to return your call so it's on our dime.

Our voicemail is always on after hours, so you can literally call us at 3 am or whatever time works for you to just leave us a name & phone number and a message to call you, which we'll be happy to do.

Hi S&B,

I know, the name is kinda funny, & you probably wouldn't believe how many people hear the name "Flip Chip" and think that means they literally have to remove the chip, flip it over and then put it back on to be abel to change programs.

The Flip Chip actually got it's name by virtue of being able to simply flip the switch to change programs, hence the term "Flip Chip."
