Question Which chip works best?

I am looking to get a chip for a 1997 F-150 with a 4.2L 5speed.
Which one works the best with my V-6?

Hi tcabrera,

It's really more a matter of tuning correctly for each application rather than one chip being always superior to all others under all conditions.

For example, in these F-150's and specifically your 4.2 V-6, Superchips has been tuning them for as long as they have existed, has a lot of R&D into these applications (much of it resulting from vehicles we've provided) and so have tuned them in virtually every configuration imaginable, from bone-stock to mildly modded (intake, exhaust, etc.) to high-boost level supercharged applications, nitrous, full-built high compression motors with wild camshafts, etc., you name it.

In general, the Superchip is the only one that tunes each vehicle individually, that tunes for maximum horsepower and torque all the time at any throttle position or rpm, and that is still 50-state emissions certified. Nobody else delivers all of that for your vehicle, only the Superchip, and that is in large part why the majority of F-150 & other vehicle owners using a performance chip are using Superchips tuning. That doesn't mean that another chip won't work well, not at all, it's simply stating the facts, nobody else offers all of that in the same chip, only Superchips.

What you might want to do is to give us a call when you get a chance (our contact info is just below) and we can go over all the specifics of your exact situation, your vehicles state of modification, how it's being used, etc., & what you want to do with it overall that will determine how it should be tuned. If this vehicle has (or will have) the common bolt-on modifications such as an intake kit, a cat-back exhaust, underdrive pulleys, etc., then you do not require any custom engine tuning beyond what we're already doing in our "standard" performance program. If you have more involved modifications, then we'll need to provide custom tuning that is appropriate for what the vehicle needs.

In general, talking about the late-model (1997 & up) F-150's with *any* engine, things like an intake kit, cat-back exhaust, underdrive pulleys & electric fan kits do not require any custom tuning beyond what is already in our "standard" performance protgram. If you intend to do things like changing fuel injector size, a larger MAF (mass airflow meter), a supercharger, nitrous oxide, ported cylinder heads, camshaft changes, etc., those types of modifications you'll need the vehicle to be custom tuned for, and we can handle all of that for you.
