Question What increases for 2001 4.6L HPI?

Specifically the 5 speed. I have seen claims of only an 18 HP gain on one website, and 26 HP on another for the 97 4.6L. Which is correct? What HP / torque increases are made in the new 4.6L's?

Sorry, I called Superchips and they couldn't tell me.

Hi Jackal,

What happened a while back was simply some errors in transposing numbers when Superchips updated their web site, and so some have used the original correct numbers, and some have used later numbers, and some have used completely different numbers altogether.

The maximum potential gain on that 4.6 motor is 26 hp & 40 lbs./ft. of torque, but of course how much power each individual truck actually gains will depend on altitude & fuel quality, just as that affects the stock power output.

I think the most accurate way to describe the effect of the Superchip is to look at the power gains in terms of a percentage, because regardless of what the vehicle is making now, in round numbers, the Superchip is basically about a 10% power gainer. And that is how your vehicle is going to feel, basically like you just picked up about 10% more motor under the hood, so to speak.

Now in your case with your local fuel & whatever altitude you are at, that gain might be 21 horsepower, or it could be 24 horsepower, or you may see the maximum, it just depends on what your vehicle is actually making right now, as the Superchip is going to add about 10% more raw power. In any event, with good quality premium gas, you'll see roughly about a 10% power gain over what you're making now in terms of the horsepower, and on the torque it runs about 13% to as much as 15% more. Again, in round numbers, think of the Superchips tuning as a 10% power gainer.

Instead of calling Superchips directly, you'll be far better off talking to us here at Performance Products. What you get when you call Superchips is the sales department, and generally someone who doesn't know a lot about these F-150's specifically. Given that we're the oldest distributor of this product in this country, and that we specialize in this specific platform and assist Superchips in the development of their applications for these vehicles, we can tell you far more accurate information about any of this than what you'll get by calling them directly. When you want correct info on the Superchip tuning for these trucks, calling us here at Performance is your best bet.
