Will a Superchip help me?
I'm kinda new here, but well experienced in driving Ford trucks, as you can see below, as everyday driver WORK trucks.
I don't tow, but very often haul half-ton or so loads, and much highway driving. I'm at 23,000 miles now, and thanks to Mobil 1 and a good filter, I've rid my self of the "marbles-in-a-can" syndrome, but noticed lately a "slight" pinging in the engine. This happened with my last truck, too, but never caused much problem in the end, it was just annoying.
If I get more HP, that would be good; I think my tranny is "too" smooth, I've noticed here that that isn't really good for the tranny long-run because of the slippage actually occurring. I don't mind feeling it shift a bit; I guess the lady drivers Ford "surveyed" liked it smooth.
I get as good fuel mileage now as I did with my six, I was surprised because I thought I'd be sacrificing a few MPG with the Triton. If the engine runs clean and efficient, and yields more power, that's worth it in the long run, as I'm sure to push this one for 200K miles as well.
If you can offer suggestions in my particular case, thank you.

zachary1, welcome to the site. We need more Ontario boys on here.
Your pinging is probably because of low octane fuel. Try going up to the next level, if you are using low octane (87) then go up to the medium one (89 or so). And if using medium, go up to the high octane. You are probably getting the pinging when you are hauling your loads and your step on it.
It is up to you but you could add an air intake (air-aid OR K&N FIPK) to the front end and a more free flowing muffler. Then the superchip that Mike Troyer can provide you. This will give you more HP & TQ and also firm up those shifts on the tranny.
Just a few suggestions for you BUT it is all up to you and your wishes for your trucks operation.

Hi Zachary1,
Glad to see you join us here!
Yes, the Superchip will help by giving you both more power all the time as well as improiving the shift characteristics of your automatic transmission, without making those shifts "harsh." Interesting you mention about the ladies, as in fact it is indeed true that Ford calibrates these automatic transmissions to be as smooth as possible, for *exactly* that reason, to make them more appealing to female buyers, since more than half of all new vehicles sold in this country are bought by women.
Unfortunately, the additional slippage induced by Ford's soft-shift strategies serves to reduce the service life of the bands & clutches, and the Superchip will help that out as well by reducing slippage and thus less heat is generated. Over the long haul, it makes a difference.
Glad to see you got a 200K+ mile service life from your last F-150, this one should give you that kind of service as well. 200K miles is the normal service life of these vehicles today, with some going 300K+ miles before a major overhaul.
Please feel free to give us a call to go over this in a bit more detail, we specialize in the performance of these F-150-platform vehicles, and so we can increase power and improve shifting without hurting mileage or reducing service life, etc. The Superchip tuning is available in both single and dual program Superchip modules, as well as our newer Micro Tuner. The maximum potential power gain from the Superchip tuning for your 4.6 is 26 HP & 40 lbs./ft. of torque, but the best way to think of it in round numbers is basically as about a 10% power-gainer, as your vehicle will feel like it pickup up about 10% more motor under the hood, so to speak.
By the way, I was also glad to see you're using Mobil 1 synthetic oil, we do too. In our vehicles, we do NOT extend the oil change internal with synthetic, in our "regular" F-150's we use a 3000 mile oil change interval, and in our Lightning anywhere from 1500-2000 miles. That alone can be a factor in whether you see 100K-150K mile service life, or a 200K-300K mile service life.
Best of luck & hope to speak with you soon!
