Need some questions answered about micro tuner
Hey,
Just installed my Superchip Micro tuner yesterday, I have a few questions, they might seem dumb to some but I am new at this micro tuner stuff.
First, I did a custom install and it asked the tire size, If you look on my sig, you can see my tire size, but they want someting between 24-36, so what size am I looking at? Also they asked about shift points 1-1,2-2 etc, I would like to play around with them but really don't understand it. And finally, the speed limiter, I pushed raise when it came up, but it never asked for a certain MPH, is that correct? I would really appreciate it. By the way, I took my truck for a cruise after installing, and I can feel the difference for sure but would like to get the full effect if you know what I mean.
Thanks alot
By the way, does someone know a good Dyno place in San Diego?

Measure the height of you tires, thats what it is asking for. The shift points are adjustable 10 mph either way from stock, sooner shift, or later shift giving you a 20mph range in which to have it shift. And rev higher.
The stock limiter shuts the truck down at 95 MPH, Raising the limiter removes the 95 barrier, I'm not sure what it moves it to.
The directions are wrong when it comes to the fuel pump fuse number(it says #9, when in fact it's #10) to be sure check your owners manual., I got mine for under $300.00, so far its really been the best $$$$ I've put into the truck..

There is a dyno shop in Santee/El Cajon on Prospect between Hwy 67 and Cuyamaca. It's on the North side about 1/3 the distance from Cuyamaca. I don't want to post the name to avoid any rules infringement. They are resonably priced and have a 3 pull package deal so you can see what your mods are doing for you.

One thing I would like to point out about getting a dyno pull is that they are not necsessarily(sp) the last word on what your truck is doing.
I am sure someone could get more precise in what I am about to say but I do know that dyno pulls can vary one heck of alot depending on things such as type of dyno....temps and how close together they do the pulls and most of all the guy doing the pull for you can cause results to vary from person to person.
One mod that I feel is not getting rated properely on a dyno is the FIPK. When your truck is moving the air under the hood is cooler than if it is sitting still. The warmer air under the hood during a dyno pull can actually cause the H.P. from the FIPK to go down some.
Oh well....just my nickles worth.
Rocks

Thanks alot, About the shift points, what do you run? I think I need to bump it up so it changes quicker. It seems like it is reving higher since Installed the tuner, is that correct? So far I like it alot. I guess I will have to see about the speed limiter later tonight..............
Whitestx,
I will be checking that place out soon. Thanks alot
Rocks,
I hera ya on the FIPK, that makes sense to me.
Appreciate your 2 cents.................

I have all my shifts pretty close to max, except the 1-2, on max I can hit the rev limiter sometimes, so I backed it down.

Hi 02F150n89 50,
THe best thing you can do is give us a call for Tech Support so we can go over all of this with you in detail, as some of that can be a bit confusing when you go into the options menu.
Much of this is covered in the documentation, but there are other details you'll want to know to ge the most ofout of it and to get thue this quickly & easily, and we'll be more than happy to go over all of the specific details with you.
A few quick points................First, you do not always have a 20 mph total adjustment range for the WOT upshift points on all vehicles. Though some will have almost that much total adjustment range, more often you generally have a bit less than that amount, though always at least +/- 5 mph from stock and usually even more, it has a very healthy adjustment range. Also, some codes do not use the center point as the "stock" setting, so the center cannot be used as a stock reference point in some vehicles, and there are other differences as well.
One important thing you'll want to know is that you do *not* have to set your shift points or firmness manually like that, that is strictly *optional*. When looking at the menu screen on the Micro Tuner as you're doing this, you will see that it gives you the option for every single menu item to just accept the default Superchips setting, making this *much* easier and quicker in a situation like yours. It can be a bit confusing, to be sure, so just so you'll know, that applies to the shift points and the shift firmness as well as everything else. Before you can change *any* parameter, the device asks you right there onscreen if you want to accept the default Superchips tuning for that item, it does that for every parameter you can change. It asks you that first and you must answer "No" to that question to even get access into the options menu, which then will take you to each individual parameter to make any adjustments. So if you will just accept the defaults for shift points and shift firmness by answering "yes" to accepting the defaults for those items, you'll find this much easier. Superchips generally has the WOT upshift points pretty well optimized for each of the codes contained in the unit, though the ability to adjust that is there for those who have made modifications that either require or can benefit from altering those shift points. You'll have to answer "No" to the *first* time the Micro Tuner asks you if you want to accept the default Superchips tuning to get into the options menu, and then from there on out you can just say "Yes" to accept the default Superchip parameters for each item, until you get to the tire size area, where you will enter the tire height in inches.
The numbers it is giving you in the section that allows you to adjust for tire size changes are the number of inches of tire height. Go to the web site of the tire manufacturer of the tires you bought, and get their spec on the height of that tire, and *that* is what you will enter, the number closest to the height of that individual tire.
If you *want* to play around with the shift points individually, and/or the shift firmness levels individually, you can certainly do that, but you don't *have* to do that, you can accept the Superchips default to make it much easier & quicker, and knowing that will help you get thru the confusion on this a bit easier. In fact, we advise doing that at first, just take all the defaults except what is required to get you into the tire size change menu, and use it for a while just like that. See just where the default Superchips tuning has your WOT shift points in your particular vehicle with those tires before you make a decision on whether or not you even need or want to adjust the shift points from there.
Again, the thing to do is to call us here at Performance for Tech Support so we can go over all of this with you, that's the best way to get correct information on this for each specific vehicle and get the best results from your Micro Tuner.
Talk to you soon, & have fun!

Mike, I was just wondering. Since you can adjust the shift firmness with the tuner, can those shifts actually be firmer than if you just have a Superchip, or is the tuner on its highest setting equal to the chip? Just wondering
Hi Beastie,
Excellent question!
The Micro Tuner will allow you to increase shift firmness above what we normally do in the traditional Superhip module, and it will also allow you to get softer shifting than what comes in the Superchip module in many vehicles.
You can choose to either accept the Superchisp defaults for that, or you can choose to alter the firmness. In most vehicles, you can make it softer or firmer than what comes in the Superchip, but there are some vehicles that taking both the shift points and the shfit firmness levels all the way down is what you would normally get in the Superchip, like in the Lightnings, just for one example. It varies depending on whether it's a Lightning or what computer code in the non-Lightning F-150's, etc., but the basic answer to your specific question is "Yes."

Could I get my chip reburned for firmer shifts only at WOT, or will that be costly and a pain for you. Just to like make it as firm as the Tuner will go.
After some thought on the matter, I think I will get a TransGo shift kit (from Mike of course) and if I cant chirp em on the WOT 1-2 upshift, I may then get the chip reburned for increased line pressure. I still need ot do the electric fans first. I picked up another shift at work, so now I will have about $250 a month just to blow on the truck. Here comes the mods!!!!!
