Chip and O/D light??
Chip and O/D light??
Couple of days ago I removed my superchip and reset the computer, when I started the truck the O/D light started flashing. I've tried everything for 2 days and it wouldn't go away. Just now I tried putting the superchip back and now the O/D light stopped. It doesn't seem right that removing the chip should cause this, what'zzzzzzzzzzzz up??
Hi 01screw,
The O/D light flashing and then stopping is completely unrelated to the Superchip, it's physically impossible for the Superchip to either cause that light to start flashing, or cause it to stop flashing, that is completely coincidental. Whatever the actual problem with your transmission, it has absolutely nothing to do with the Superchip.
As you will see if you read your owner's manual, the O/D light is flashing because you have a problem with your transmission, either internally, or a sensor, etc., so you need to get the vehicle in for service just as it states in your owner's manual about this. The light stopped flashing simply because you disconnected your battery when removing & then again when reinstalling the Superchip, and that cleared the error code temporarily, but if there is a real problem, it *will* come back.
I'd remove the chip and get it in for a service appointment, as that flashing TCS light (transmission control switch) is telling you that you have a transmission *problem*.
Good luck!

Hi Mike,
I know what you're saying but when I remove the chip, as soon as I start the engine the O/D light starts flashing. Once I put the chip back, I can drive around and the light still doesn't come on but no sooner I pull the chip out and start the truck, the light comes right back on????!!????

Hi O1
I understand what your saying. I have no idea why.
You may already know or done? When that od light is flashing (chip in/out)...a trb. code may have been thrown?
Need scan tool. Take to dealer/shop...maybe a friend has code reader/if you have autozone there...they may lend you one?
Then go from there. Im confused to...but not first time
Good luck....OT
BTW....if a code was thrown...then the next fun part is figureing out what that code means and then fixing it. Of course your tranny should be complaining about something/maybe not?

Zyg,
Where's this sensor, internal or externally? I don't think that's my problem, because the O/D light goes out as soon as I plug my superchip back. Anyway, I thought I'd check the sensor as you said because I installed my Transgo about a month ago.
Old Timer,
I did a scan, no codes - all ok!!!??? I'm confused too!!

Hi 01screw,
That sure is a bit odd, however, the Superchip itself still isn't going to cause that kind of problem, and the light going back out when you put the Superchip back in is still most likely coincidental, perhaps related to some other actual problem.
This could be as simple as you just needing to clear the PCM after the program change as we advise in our documentation, if you haven't already tried that I would.
You might want to give us a call on this one, as there are some questions we'll need to ask to try to do some basic troubleshooting here on this.

Mike,
As Usual, you're da man!! I decided to pull the pan and check it out and found that the connection to the solenoid came loose, solved the O/D light problem. Thanks again!!

Hi 01Screw,
Excellent, I'm glad it was that simple. It's sometimes hard to accept when you're having a problem like that, that it's completely coincidental to the Superchip being in or out, until you actually get to the real culprit. It's a good thing you dropped the pan, that was the only way you were going to get to the bottom of this!
Credit goes to Zyg on this one, he's the one that really called it, he had the culprit nailed to a "T".
Thanks for letting us know, & glad you found it!

Sorry Zyg!!
Thanks to you too. It was a combination of Mike insisting it wasn't the chip and your post regarding the loose connection that drove me to drop the pan and check. Thanks to all who responded!!
