Thumbs up New chip installed

Just the day before a trip to New Hampshire, my Flip-Chip arrived and went in without much problem at all. Very nice mod to the truck. I noticed the shifts immediately...quick and precise. Throttle response is alot quicker as well. And the speed limiter is very much gone. Not only does the truck now reach 100 mph, it pegs the needle and is still accelerating! Very nice for passing those people who love to stay in the passing lane and not move over when something faster wants to move by.

The only problem that I noticed is after shifting back down from the passing gear, there is a rather hard clunk as it shifts back down. Is this normal or is something that was there before and now the chip may be modifying or exagerating the feel of the tranny shifts?

Any thoughts? Still love the chip tho...very glad I did it.

yes that is normal, that is the adaptive strategy of your trucks pcm.

your trucks computer will go through a learning process for about 300-500 miles of driving .

so dont worry that is normal, mine did the same thing..

Hi Rotties150,

As Jason mentioned, that could very well just be part of the normal adaptive strategy process after clearing the PCM and/or changing it's programming, where the PCM goes thru the process of relearning and adjusting automatic transmission shift characteristics, idle speed, idle quality, & various other aspects of powertrain operations. During that process, you can have either harder than normal or even softer than normal shifting, for 350-500 miles and sometimes more, as the PCM relearns & adapts to how it's being operated. This doesn't *always* happen, but there are usually at least some kind of mild symptoms during relearn, and some not so mild, that's pretty normal. This potential affect on shifting in the automatics after clearing the PCM (disconnecting the battery, etc.) is actually mentioned in many of the newer trucks owner's manuals, though it is kinda buried in the text, and in some is not mentioned at all.

It could also be that it the changes in the Superchip's program are exaggerating something previously present but not really noticed, that is a possibility. When that happens, it's more commonly seen with higher-mileage or older 4R70W automatics, and is usually a simple matter of needing a fluid & filter change or shift solenoids needing replacement. Or, it could be that you have a bit of play in the U-joints, and this is just enough to make it noticeable under those conditions, and of course, this is strictly guessing here at outside possibilities. Time will tell as you accumulate more miles as to whether this is something that is just due to the normal adaptive strategy adjustments as normally happens anytime you clear the PCM. See how it's shifting at 500 miles & a number of drive cycles before deciding if it's a problem is generally what we advise, but feel free to call us on this anytime.

The actual increase in line pressure in the Superchip programming is much smaller that most people would think, as removing the various delays & retards also helps to firm the shift in direct correlaiton to the amount of throttle opening, which is as it should be, and so not much additional line pressure is needed. You should have the firmest & quickest shifts at the heaviest throttle, to prevent clutch slippage inside the tranny under heavy power.

Glad to see you're enjoying the Superchip tuning, have fun!

Good job installing your chip and using the extra power you now have.
