Mike, can your chip do this?
Dear Mike,
I have read lots of your posts and i am sure you will be able to answer my question in a polite and informative way, as always. OK, enough *** kissing. I just read in a post in the "Engine Forum", that you can burn a chip to correct the ever popular "engine ping" in my 4.6L V-8, is this really true? I have thought of getting a chip on several different occasions, however always put it off. I have no race truck, it is a GREAT truck though, gets me to work and back, comfy to drive and i love the looks. The ping is no HUGE issue with me, only appreatn under heavy acceleration up a hill, as i baby the heck outta my truck and it rarely sees above 3,000RPM, the ping is like i said not really a huge thing for me. BUT, if there was a relatively cheap way of rectifying the problem with a SuperChip, and getting all the other improvements from a chip, you have me SOLD! So, if you think you CAN do this, and if it has happened, what more info. do you need from me? No other engine mods other than a K&N, i dont even have the FIPK, just the flter, everything else is stock as a rock. So, lemme know whats up, and i can only guess that if it does not correct the ping, i am stuck with the chip? Sorry, i had to ask!
thanks again, any and all help is appreciated!

Hi Medic!
Well, the answer is a definite maybe.
All kidding aside, if this detonation is due to a *tuning* issue, then yes, we can usually do a custom program to take care of that. If the detonation is due to anything else, like MAF, ignition, fuel delivery system, etc. issues, then no, the Superchip won't help.
We have indeed quelled detonation in a number of these vehicles, as they were issues that could be addressed via tuning. I know that sounds simplistic, but trust me, these engines can detonate for many reasons that have nothing to do with the basic tuning of the motor, such as poor fuel quality (the single bigest cause) EGR flow issues, carbon buildup, and any of a number of other potential problems.
So what we suggest at this pont is to give us a call, so we can spend a few minutes with you over the phone to go over all of this with you, and then we can let you know if you stand a good chance of having your detonation quelled via tuning changes in the Superchip, or if other things need to be addressed first.
Talk to you soon,
