Question Superchip & Headers

I just recently had a set of Gibson Headers installed on my 5.4. Does the superchip have to be reflashed for the headers? I think I may have read in a old post about needing a custon program after having headers installed.

Best thing to do is call Mike T he will give what info you need on it. Or just wait for him to come along and post it.

I dont think you have to, but your truck will run a little lean.

YES, you need to have your chip reflashed. Not optionable unless you don't mind trashing your engine in a few hundred miles.

One thing though....what else do you plan on doing? MAF? Fuel Pump? Injectors? You may want to lay out a plan of action so you don't have to keep getting the chip reprogrammmed.

Call Mike T. for the details.

Hi kaoliver,

Nice to "see" you again, it's been awhile!

Yes, the Superchip should be updated with custom tuning for headers. Your engine will run lean with headers (due to the increased scavenging), so that needs to be corrected, and there are a couple other things in the tuning that are tweaked a bit for headers.

Custom tuning for the headers will get you a few more horsepower as well, usually about 5+ more horsepower, and that's just a byproduct of correcting the tuning for the headers. You don't have that the custom header tuning done for the 5 hp, you have it done because it's needed to correct the tuning, so the additional power is just a nice bonus, basically.

If you'd like to have us take care of this, just give us a quick call.

As Rocks mentioned, if you are plainning on doing other things that would affect the tuning of your engine, like an aftermarket MAF, larger injectors, etc., that can all be done at the same time, as it's a multi-tiered flat fee for the custom tuning. Just give us a call to go over the details on that.

Good luck!
