flip chip owners
Am getting my superchip flip chip here any day now, problem is I have a full tank of 87 and itchy hands. I would like to install the flip chip when I get it with it set at 87octane and just flip it over to 92 when I run out of gas and have to fill it up.
Question is, doing it this way do I have to reset my computer to get the benefits of 92 right away? I know eventually to get the full 100% effect of the superchip it takes a couple hundred miles but would me switching octanes in the middle effect that time any? Just curious, I plan on installing and then just flopping it over when I fuel up. I expect I will be happy with it in any case.

Hi Jes,
You can do just exactly as you stated, install it on the 87 octane program and when you run that tank out & fill up with premium, just flip the switch over to the premium gas program. I would not clear the ECU after flipping that switch, just fill it up with premium, flip the switch & drive.
It generally takes about 50 miles or so to start getting some of the additional power after flipping the switch like that. Then you will have to run all of the remaining 87 octane out of the system (when the low fuel light comes on you still have at least 3.5 or more gallons), which takes at least a couple of tanks, and by then you will have a few hundred miles on it and will be getting the full 100% from it about the time that you get all the 87 run out.
Don't worry, you only have 1 tank of 87 octane to run out, and with the mpg these trucks get, that isn't going to take very long.
Have fun!
