STEP AWAY FROM THAT WHEEL. FREEZE, DON'T MOVE. If ya bought that chip from Mike, you should call him at the phone number he sent with it.
They have untold experience at the best way to install that chip and I sure wouldn't come up with my own way.
Call him, the phone number is real. it is just for this kind of thing.

Good luck With the chip. I couldn't believe how well mine did when I got it put in.

Hi F150/Paul,

Sorry to be a day late in getting back to you, we're very rushed right now getting ready to leave for our 3rd Annual F-150 Online/Performance Products National Rally!

Actually, this is an interesting question that has not been asked in a quite a while.............

You might be able to do that with a Dremel, but only using a very soft wheel of course, as you mentioned. The CF is clear in color and is silicon-based, it's not the older hard lacquer-based material used in most of the pre-1997 vehicles, therefore I think that *might* just be do-able.

I would be very careful (of course) doing this, the main thing is to make sure that you don't make a mis-lick (that's a Southern expression ) on it, and don't go thru the protective tin coating on the contacts themselves, which is the next "layer" after the conformal coating is removed. If the protective tin is removed from the contacts, then you expose the copper underneath, which is an even better conductor of signals & current, but is very soft & will eventually wear thru in some cases.

If you decide to give this a try, do let us know how that works out for you. I'm only saying a conditional "maybe" on this assuming that a soft wheel and a very soft & careful "touch" is used. We wouldn't recommend this of course, but it just might be something that, in the right hands, is do-able without damage.

I think it will clog the wheel pretty quickly, *especially* on all 2001 & newer vehicles due to the greatly increased thickness of the CF starting in 2001, and therefore that clogging will likely be a problem that may make this not feasible. But if you do try this, please let me know how that works out.

Be careful, & good luck!
