Wondering if the chip (Supercrip) I instaqlled in my 2000 150 (5.4, Auto) can be reprogrammed to go in my new 250 (02' 5.4, Auto)? I assume the ECU is similar? Hoping I don't have to buy another chip
Probably just overwhelmed. He should get to either your e-mail or this post sometime soon.
If I remember correctly, I think Mike said that I could take my chip which is for a '94 302, auto and put it into anything other than a powerstroke Superduty. I guess the computers are different or something like that OR maybe it is the chip is actually different on the powerstrokes.
So, to answer your question after that quick babble, yes I do believe that you can have your chip re-programmed for the superduty.
Mike, please correct me if I am wrong on this. This information was from a conversation a long time ago.

I just needed to be a little patient... got an email reply this morning. (Driving a new vehicle without the chip is driving me nuts, sloppy!)
FYI, he believes it can be reprogrammed. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Okie DRN,
My apologies for it taking a little while to get back to you in email, our email load is extremely heavy & so we're usually 2-5 days in getting each response back out, not always, but more often here lately, especially with the Rally this weekend!
It shouldn't be any problem to reprogram that Superchip, though you upgraded into a Super Duty (congratulations, by the way!), it's got the 5.4 motor, and that being the case that Superchip can be reprogrammed for that new vehicle.
Since it's a brand new unit, we suggest getting it's computer code and touching base with us to make sure we already have that new code available. Chances are we do, but once in awhile we'll find a vehicle that just very recently was built that will have a new code we don't have yet, in which case it could take 30-60 days before we have it available. The computer code will be in the same place as your F-150 EXCEPT over on the Driver's side instead of the passenger side. Open the front Driver's door, look in the front door frame, in the area of the door hinges, and there you should find your code sticker, 3 letters followed by 1 number as usual.
Once you find that, you give us a quick shout by phone or email just to make sure we already have that code, & then we can take care of that for you ASAP.
Just so you'll know our schedule, we are leaving for the Rally tomorrow morning (tomorrow meaning Thursday the 25th), and though we'll be monitoring F-150 Online from our laptop at the hotel, we won't be doing any more email after today until next Monday the 29th. Just FYI................
Talk to you soon!

Thanks for the reply and email... great support as always
The code is GCU1. I'll be pulling the chip out of the 150 today and will call for an RMA/RA on Monday.
Meanwhile, will do some searching on custom programming, no idea what the capabilities are, mostly concerned about shifts... I can't believe that a Super Duty has the same soft-shift programming as the 150.

Hi Okie,
Oh yes indeed, those Super Duty's do have eth same basic soft-shift strategies like the F-150's do, though they aren't *quite* as aggressive, they are indeed still present. You still have the timing retards, the cutback in A/F ratios during the upshifts, the upshift & downshift delays, etc. to be taken care of.
You'll have the somewhat beefier 4R100 automatic tranny in the Super Duty trucks, as compared to what most F-150's get which is the 4R70W, but it will still have the same basic issues in the powertrain programming. The only difference you might feel is a slightly firmer shift stock, and some people don't even notice that, it's not a big difference, but there is just a tad less slippage, generally speaking.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully you guys have the chip, PO said it would be there Monday ... who knows.
Tell ya what... after 2 years with the chip, I literally can't stand driving without it. The HP/TQ increase was noticable on the 150, hope the same will hold true on this even heavier 250 (still not clear on actual weight, but it's got to be well over 6K lbs).
Since this thread sarted, I purchased the Fatory Tech VB... hoping I won't need to send the chip back yet again, some say the combination shifts great, some say the line pressure needs to be reduced via the chip. We'll see. Could have timed the return of the chip better, lol.
Waiting patiently (not really) on the little magic blue thing.

Well, the chip isn't coming back.
They don't have the code for my 4-22 build date F250. No idea when they'll be able to send it.
Ugg.
Bummed in Illinois.
Mike, how long would I be without my ECU if I send it in? I REALLY want my chip!

Hi Okie,
Yep, you've got a code that is not only rare, it's also too new to be available thru channels yet.
That happens once in awhile, if Ford has built a recent vehicle where they just started using a new software revision, then it will take a little while before that is available thru channels, so we can modify the program. This is something we deal with at the start of every model year for a little while, too.
Usually it's not long before we have the code, maybe 30-60 days on average, but once in a while it will take a few months.
If you want to send in your ECU so we can read it, that can be done very quickly, usually it's a matter of overnighting it in, it's read the next day and overnighted back out, so in most cases, it's only 48 hours of vehicle downtime. Sometimes, if there are a lot of ECU's to be read on a given day, it may take an extra day to get to it, so I'd say to be prepared for 2-3 days of vehicle downtime to have this done. If you think you may want to do this, give us a call & we can go over exactly what is involved with you.
We know just how frustrating it is to drive without the Superchip once you've gotten used to it, driving on the factory program is rather bland & sluggish by comparison.
Hang in there, hopefully it won't be too long before you'll be enjoying your Superchip again in this next vehicle!

As soon as I can shedule time without my ride, I'll give you guys a call and get it done, no doubt about it, doing without the truck for a couple days is worth it
Thanks for the reply.
