Superchip for Diesel?
Superchip for Diesel?
Hi Mike,
My brother just bought a 2002 F-350 dually with the 7.3L powerstroke.
Lariet LE edition, crewcab, with 4x4.
Is Superchip available for his truck, and if so, what kind of performance gains can he expect to see? (realistic gains)
I heard that the chips offer a bit more juice for the diesels for some reason... compared to regular gas engines.
Thanks in advance
Habibi

Hi Habibi,
Good to see you again!
Yes, it is true that significantly larger power gains can be made by optimizing the powertrain programming/tuning on just about any forced induction motor compared to one that is normally aspirated, so supercharged engines, and especially turbocharged diesel engines can see tremendous gains.
The Superchips product for the Powerstroke diesel is our Micro Tuner, which you connect to the OBD-II port under the dash and upload your choice of either of 2 different performance programs in about 7-8 minutes.
The first program adds 60 horsepower & 115 lbs./ft. of torque, is still 50-state emissions certified, requires no other modifications to the vehicle and puts no limitations on your factory towing capacity rating.
The other program is our Offroad program, which adds 80 horsepower and anywehre from 130-150 lbs./ft. of torque, is not emissions certified, and requires opening the intake & the exhaust (like with an airbox kit & a downtube-back or a turbo-back exhaust, all of which we carry) to get the full rated power gains and maintain safe EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures).
So you can switch between the factory stock program, the +60 HP CARB-certified program or the Offroad + 80 HP program just by connecting to the vehicle's OBD-II port in about 7-8 minutes.
Those are indeed very realistic power gains, Superchips has been tuning PSD's for longer than anyone else in the aftermarket by far, having producing the world's first performance chip for the Ford Powerstroke Diesel.
This is available in our Superchips Online Ordering system, the link to which is just below in our signature line. Or, please feel free to give us a call if you and/or your brother would like to go over this in more detail.
That's very nice truck your brother has there, sounds like that's a decked out dually in that Lariat LE edition. We've been out looking as PSD's ourselves here lately for a towing vehicle, they're doing a very nice job with the interiors of those crew cabs. I'm sure your brother will enjoy his new truck for many years to come.
