super chip dude.
Mike, thanks for the clarification. I figured the management on a vehicle 10+ years newer than mine would be a little more complicated. I guess I'm behind in thinking the EEC is still in the game. But I've been stuck in EEC since '93, lol. I'm ignorant to anything else out there.
As far as me getting the car on the dyno, well, I'm never gonna do it. You're right, I may not have the optimal tune. But I prefer to look at the timeslip, pyrometer and check the plugs after every pass, and this tells me everything I need to know. I know I may be losing out on a tenth or two but I've tested and tested, with many variances in FP, Timing, N20 jetting and spark plugs, and I've got it pretty well sorted out. Now it's a matter of getting a bigger nitrous system(and start all over again with the tune) so I can make the power to run 10.20-10.40s like the big dogs in my class do. If I thought a chip would do me any good, I'd try it. But I've done research, lots of it, and talked to many other racers. I know chips can be made to work well, I've seen Mike Wesley's(of Autologic) rip it up in my class(with a Paxton). But I feel(at least on a nitrous car) that a chip isn't necessary for my application. I believe a blower or turbo would definitely benefit, but it's my belief that a nitrous car would see little improvement in power or AF ratios. Not slamming you or Superchips. I might get one in the next few months for me truck. JMO, take it with a grain of salt. Can you just give me a general idea of what you could provide - something simple, not wild, and what kind of gains I could expect to see(theoretically) on my truck. It's 90% daily driver, and will be used to tow my car/trailer(together weighing 5110#) to the track. Towing frequency will be once a month(long hauls over 10-12 hours) and 2-3 more times a month(1.5 hours for T&T). BTW, it's gonna stay bone stock save for an Airaid FIPK. It's also got 3.55s in the rear.

Hi 50boy,
No problem at all, thanks for your post.
Sounds like you're happy with what you have, and I was glad to hear you're tracking EGT's, so at least you are working with some hard data, excellent! Could you get more power from a proper tune? Well, that's the only way you will ever make maximum safe power in any computer controlled vehicle, with or without nitrous, is to get it on the dyno, get the exact A/F's & dial it in to spot-on perfection. Given all the work you have in your tune by now, who knows, you may already be there! It would be nice to get all the hard data to see just what's what.
Whether you ever decide to do that or not is of course up to you, you have to do whatever makes you happy, by all means.
I appreciate that you have every right to your opinion of course, & you've stated it very politely & professionally, to be sure!
Speaking of 5.0 Mustangs, for all the years that Wild Bill Devine was the World's Fastest 5.0 and ever since, Superchips has tuned his motors, as well as those of so many other class racers, guys who are N/A, spraying, boosting, etc.
In terms of what you can expect from the Superchip for your 1997 4.6 F-150, what we can pick up by retuning that engine specifically for premium gas with the Superchip is about 10% to 12% more power. In round numbers, think of the Superchip as a 10% power-gainer for that truck. Maximum potential gains for the 4.6 are 26 HP & 40 lbs./ft., what your individual truck actually makes will depend on health of the motor & especially that ignition system, along with fuel quality & altitude. In round numbers, call it a 10% power gainer, basically, and it works all the time at any throttle position or rpm, which is nice.
Best of luck with your vehicles & the Mustang of course!

Thanks, Mike. It sounds like a good idea, if the claims are correct. For now, it's going to have to go without one, as I'm a little too poor with racing season going on. But for towing, that 40 ft-lbs is REALLY attractive. Could you tell me what the truck is rated at now? I wanted to say 230/310 but I'm not sure.
Thanks
Thanks
mike I got the chip but...
I haven't installed it yet.
your website says 10 US to ship, yes I know extra charges were to be expected cause I'm in canada but 39.36 on top of the 10US.
thats just nutts! this thing (if it wasen't in a oversized box) could go in an envelope!! might want to look into your shipping charges.
I will not be send ing back for reburn thats for sure..
and it says you sent the chip for 5.59 then sent C.O.D for 39.36.
can you explain this? you are not the first company that did this also, so I'm just confused. Does the little guy always have to be nickled and dimed..
P.S I know you are not responsiable but I want a ancwer and you have been so helpful on here I thought you would maybe look into this.
oh this 235 doller chip ended costing me 480.00 with exchange and shipping and c.o.d and stuff so I hope its good.

Hi Icon,
It sounds to me like you are talking about the customs fee. That is something you will always have to deal with when buying any product in America and having an American company ship it up to Canada.
The only thing I can tell you with absolute certainty is that we had absolutely nothing to do with that, as you were *NOT* charged that by us, we did *NOT* collect any such funds from you in any way, shape, or form, and we did NOT bill you for anything COD, either. We will not send any COD shipments for anything for any amount to any location outside the 50 US states.
That has nothing to do with us, that is between you and your country. Nor are we in any way responsible for the state of your country's currency valuation against the dollar.
That aside, just for future reference, you might want to abide by the policies of F-150 Online that require for things like pricing, order status, Tech Support, and anything that is of a nature that is between vendor & customer are to be communicated privately between the 2 parties, and not here on the message boards of F-150 Online.
We'll never put *any* product in an envelope, nor do we use anything remotely resembling an "oversized" box, it's very small, about 1.5 inches high by 5 inches wide by about 6 inches long, I don't think anyone would call that "oversized, we sure don't and neither does any shipper here in America, as anything oversized gets a different rate that we would see right here in the UPS Worldhip software, and that was not the case at all, and never has been with any shipment to Canada. We will continue to ship them just like that, just as we have for over a decade, as we are required by all shipping companies to do "due diligence" in our packaging in order for any shipper to accept and insure the shipment. That is extremely basic in any business that ships any products, proper packaging against damage is *required*, and is only common sense. It has to be packaged properly against damage, and I can only imagine how loud any customer would be complaining if we had sent it in an envelope due to the damage that would indeed occur!
This has absolutely nothing to do with us my friend, this is between you and your country, and there's nothing we can do about it, nor did we have anything to do with that.
Please feel free to give us a call if you'd like to discuss this, we'll be happy to speak with you in detail about this.
All that aside, we hope you enjoy your Superchip, which is all we have anything to do with!

chip works like a charm.
this 39.36 is not duty(that comes later) I order lots from the states and know how it works. well it is this couts currier that keeps charging insane fees for shipping from the border to where I live(its a 10 doller canadian bus fair) how is the chip sent?
UPS or just by bus?(this is so I can request in the future not to send it through this company) the post office works fine by me.
thanks for the reply.
and if nothing else the chip is worth it JUST for the clean shifting, its not sloppy and ruff anymore.

Hi Icon,
Thanks for your post and for your understanding on this.
OK, so it sounds like you're obviously familiar with the customs deal.
How it was sent to you, to answer your last question as I understand it, was via UPS, the guys running all the silly ads about wanted Dale Jarrett to race the big brown truck.
We have also had a couple of cases, for example, where even if we send something up to Canada that has a sale price of, let's say just for an example, only $50, but it's a package that we put additional insurance on because it's a part that is either very difficult or just downright impossible to replace for that same price and so we put more insurance on the shipment, we've had a couple of people say that they got charged a fee based on the amount we **insured** the shipment for, regardless of the actual price the customer paid! This is extremely rare of course, but just to share everything we have seen or heard about this subject with you, we've seen that kind of thing happen, this was a couple of years ago. But it left us with the distinct impression that Canadian customs/import staff are very aggressively about generating revenue, to the point that they have unfairly charged some people. Rare, but it's happened.
Just to let you know, we have tried every shipper available over the years that can pick up & deliver our shipments, from UPS to FedEx to Airborne to the US Postal Service to you name it, but nothing has proven to be any less expensive in practical terms, meaning any significant difference in the actual cost to the consumer get the product delivered up there. Just doesn't make any real difference, and so we stick with UPS, who (believe it or not), day in and day out, does the best overall job of getting our packages delivered on time to the right address with the least number of damaged shipments.
Sicne you mention that you are familair with this process from having other thigs shipped from America to you up there, if there is anything that you think was not handled properly there on your side of the border, or just was not done correctly etc., we'd like to hear from you on that, just in case there might be somethig we can warn others of in the future. Please feel free to give us a call so we can go over this in detail with you, as we want to have any documentation that may be helpful in making sure that our Canadian customers are treated right by the "powers that be" on our shipments going up there. Here is where your experience in having things shipped up to you from companies in America might prove very helpful, as that will (perhaps) help you to determine if something was done here that has not been done before, etc.
A lot of people have said the exact same thig you did, about the Superchip being worth it just for the improvement in shift characteristics alone, & of course we feel the same way.
I'm glad you're enjoying it, & please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.
Have fun!
