now no laughing, but it took me somewere in the neighbourhood of ewww 4hours to get my chip installed, i guess the mounting bracket doesnt really have to come off
and a few other things that i aint gonna mention lol.
Neways hey Mike quick question, i took it for a test drive and it was great for the most part, no more of that dead slug gear hardly. Than i tried a few from the get go and heard some funny changling sounds, ( never heard them before ) now it seems not to be as good as it was 5 minutes earlier
If the chip loosened up a bit would that mess up nething, i'm debating whether i did a god enough install job. I have that stupid tab piece thats in the way of the superchip a bit from the mounting bracket. Now the chip can go over it over it can over over the chip, or i can bend it straight out so its not een close to touching the chip. Which one should i have done?
Sorry for the long type up here, but its about 2am your time i'm guessing and i doutb u guys are open..lol.
thnx Mike

I was going to start another thread, but will jump in here because I have the same problem. I have a 2002 FX4 Supercrew.
Received my chip a couple of days ago and went to install it this morning. After wrestling with this for about 1hr I have decided to quit - at least for now.
I took the battery out. Took the tray out. Got the computer out and now have bleeding knuckles, which I don't mind too much since I am 6'3, 235. But it is not easy getting under there working blindly with one arm.
Then I saw the dreaded LIP on the bracket. Tried to get the bracket out and decided that I would be here all day working on this, even IF I ever get it off. I don't even want to think of trying to put it back in. Well after 1hr of this I figured I would ask. There has to be a better way to get the bracket out. The bottom bolt is ok, but that top bolt to get the bracket out is a REAL PROBLEM.
Any tips?

yes i did F150aGoGo, took close to an hour and a very cramped hand just to get the top bolt out. though i found a solution too, ( which everyone else probably already knows )just loose the top bolt enough to pop out the black holding clip, than simply slide out the computer. now u have perfect access at both basturd bolts
too take the bracket out with no pain at all.Than Simple put the bracket back in first, keep the top bolt a little loose, slide the computer back into place, clamp it down with the black clip then tighten the top bolt the rest of the way. Man if i thought of this in the begining it would have taken only like 2 hours tops to do the whole thing.
The only thing thats buggin me now is, i hardly notice any difference at all from this chip. Maybe i gotta make a phone call to Mr. M for some help.

I got the black clip off ok, then took the computer out. I was trying to get the bracket out so I could bend the lip down on the bracet. I guess there are no easy ways to get that damn bracket out.
What would be nice is if the chip was a bit smaller then the bracket would not be an issue.

Just to make sure we are all speaking of the same thing. This link shows a pic of the computer in the bracket. Is the lip portion of the bracket that is above the black clip the issue? Mine looks like this pic.

HI F150aGoGo,
Yes, that is where we're talking about, though in this picture it cannot be seen if this one will have that lip ***in the area where the Superchip mounts,**** as it's obscured by the black plastic pressure clip that holds the ECU against that bracket.
By the way, that is just one of a number of different mounting brackets/plates that are used in the 1997 & up F-150, F-250 Light Duty and the Expedition, there are a number of different styles for that. That one looks like one of the easier ones.

well im not really one to say but i doubt it, as u can see the two longer lips on the ends arnt as wide i guess it would be as the center lip thats under the bracket in the picture. I just bent the center lip straight out with a pair of pliers, and the two corners on the loner lips were they have been cut from the factory to be not as wide; i used a file to shave the corse pokey edges down. besides that i think it should be perfect.I just redid the whole procedure again, even opened the computer to see if any of excess rubber compund was still lying around. 35 minutes it only took me.

OK I am throwing in the towel for now. Mike, I was looking at your documentation for my flip chip and it is incorrect. Here is the deal now.
On the switch the home posistion [with vertical slot] is labeled number 2 on the switch. On the paperwork/docs you sent it says that the home position is the 87 octane program and that position #2 contains the 92 octane.
This doesn't make sense. One of the other, the switch lable or the documentation is incorrect.
The programmers name is uev187rs.
I sure hope this is worth it?

Hi F150aGoGo,
You can save yourself some aggravation by calling us.
Please, as we've said before, and as our documentation clearly points out, we cannot provide Tech Support here on these message boards. Our documentation clearly explains exactly how to get Technical Support from us.
As I have explained in one of the other threads you've been posting this in, F-150 Online has firm policies that require anything that is of a nature that is between vendor & customer such as Tech Support, pricing, order status, etc. *MUST* be communicated privately, not here on these message boards. If F-150 Online did not have that policy here, these message boards would be rapidly clogged with nothing but Tech Support issues between vendors & their customers, to the detriment of all else and to the detriment of the real purpose of F-150 Online. It's happened before years ago, and that is why those policies were enacted long ago. So if it's something very quick & simple, we can sometimes do that here, but all in all, Tech Support any anything detailed has to be done over the phone.
That aside, the reality is in any Tech Support situation involving installing performance parts on a motor vehicle, it takes literally 100-200 times longer to type something out versus doing it over the phone, so this will never be the way to get Tech Support from us, meaning via the written word either online or in email, Tech Support simply has to be done over the phone.
We want to help you with this, in fact we're well known for our excellent service, and any installation problems you are having can certainly be rectified. So please, call us for Tech Support, that's the only way we can properly help you, ok? Thanks!
WIth regard to the home position issue you mention, in over a decade we've never had anyone report where the slot on the switch barrel is not aligned with the Side 1 marking on the switch housing, but there's a first time for everything I suppose. The reality is we don't loot at the slot on the barrel, what we look at, either when programming the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip or when mounting the switch, are the actual numeral markings on each end of the switch housing. So that is how it is programmed, with the side that is marked as Side 1 being the Side 1 program as described on the documentation. It's possible that the slot may not be aligned with the Side 1 marking, I've never actually seen one like that before, but then we really don't look for that, we're looking at the markings on each end of the switch housing.
Thanks for mentioning that by the way, I've never seen that happen before and we'll probably start looking at that from now on when loading the completed programs into the module just out of curiosity, but it will always be the numeric markings on each end of the switch housing that determines which side is which.
In your case, talking about dealing with the lip in the area whre the Superchip attaches, it sounds like this may be complicated a bit by having large hands, so you can either deal with that as Honster did, or get a flex drive. Anyone with large hands, and in fact anyone that does work on their vehicles of just about any kind should have a good flex drive on hand. They're cheap and make a lot of tight spots much easier to deal with.
Give us a call for your Tech Support, & you'll quickly find that we're more than happy to help you with this, please.
Hang in there big guy, & talk to you soon!
